Temptations Greatest Hits 2

LP (Item 37642) Gordy, Late 60s — Condition: Very Good
During the late 60s, the Temptations career really started to take off – and the group emerged to become a landmark vocal ensemble with a groundbreaking effect on the history of soul and funk. Working with Norman Whitfield, they forged a righteous heavy soul sound that was quite different than that of their Motown contemporaries – filled with politics and social consciousness, laid out in a blend of heavy basslines and full fuzzy guitars that really kicked ass. This second volume of the Temps' greatest hits dips heavily into those key years – and it includes killer cuts like "Cloud Nine", "Ball of Confusion", "I Can't Get Next To You", "Run Away Child, Running Wild", "Don't Let The Joneses Get You Down", "I Wish It Would Rain", and "Psychedelic Shack".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some edge wear, faint ring wear, corner bend.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Gordy, 1972. Very Good
The Temptations going in all directions – and all of them pretty darn groovy too! ABC/Dunhill, 1972. Near Mint-
Killer Four Tops material from the early 70s – and a record that proved that they didn't need to be on Motown to still keep churnin' out the hits! Jerry Butler

Sagittarius Movement
Mercury, 1971. Very Good+
One of the great albums of trippy soul that Jerry Butler cut with his Fountain Productions group of players, arrangers, and engineers – a group that borrowed a lot of talent from the Chess/Cadet studios of the late 60s. Jerry produced with Gerald Sims, and the arrangements were handled by ... LP, Vinyl record album

Funkadelic

Hardcore Jollies
Warner, 1976. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of the sweetest Funkadelic albums from the middle period, and a good batch of tracks that often gets overlooked in the haze of similar Pedro Bell covers! Innervisions
Tamla, 1973. Very Good Gatefold

Stevie Wonder

Hotter Than July
Tamla, 1980. Very Good+ Gatefold
A bit smoother than early days, but still very nice and soulful – and did we expect any less from Stevie? The record's got a nicely flanged-out soul groove – with a style that kind of expands on the vocal and keyboard production of the early 70s, taking the groove towards a sound that ... Faith Hope & Charity

Faith Hope & Charity (RCA)
RCA, 1975. Very Good+
Sweet 70s soul from Faith Hope & Charity – a trio who had recorded previously, but who really burst out here at the start of the disco years with some strong studio help from the great Van McCoy! Patrice Rushen

Watch Out!
Arista, 1987. Very Good+
Patrice Rushen in a crisp 80s soul mode! Watch Out finds Patrice really cutting down the keyboards in favor of stronger vocals right out front – breaking all the rules, as the title of second song tells it – and it works really well! Most of the arrangements, synth and drum ... LP, Vinyl record album
Abril Cultural (Brazil), 1982. Very Good Gatefold
Very cool! This is the second pressing of this Edu Lobo "best of" – and like the first, it includes an excellent booklet of writings and photos – but unlike the first, this is a 12" LP, so it's actually got more songs. As with the others in this series, the album ... LP, Vinyl record album
