LP (Item 374355) Motown, 1984 — Condition: Near Mint-

Kind of a "best of plus" set from Rick James – featuring some of his older work for Motown, plus a few new numbers to round out the set! As usual, the whole thing's written, arranged, and produced by the Super Freak himself – with that bass-heavy pop-funk groove that Rick virtually invented! Titles include "Super Freak", "You & I", "Mary Jane", "Dance Wit Me", "Give It To Me Baby", "You Turn Me On", "Bustin Out", "Fire & Desire", "Oh What A Night", and "17".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Missing the poster. Cover has light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Glow
Gordy, 1985. Near Mint-
Rick James hits a smoother sort of style here – one that's almost a compressed take on the mainstream version of funk first crafted on his earlier records, fused into a more radio-friendly approach for the Prince generation! The sound's actually not that bad – and the record has an ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rick James

Cold Blooded
Gordy, 1983. Near Mint- Gatefold
Another stone winner from Rick James' early 80s run for Motown – a set that follows strongly on territory opened up by previous records – especially that bass-heavy approach to funk! The record's maybe not as stone classic as others, but still is way tighter and more put-together than ... LP, Vinyl record album

Funny Girl
Motown, 1968. Near Mint- Gatefold
A great little album from Diana Ross – maybe one of her lesser-known efforts with The Supremes, and a set that really points the way towards the solo years to come! One of the reasons for that is that the set really just features Diana out in the lead, with different backing singers behind ... LP, Vinyl record album

Not as huge as some of the Jacksons' other early 70s albums – but still pretty darn great! Lionel Richie come back! All is forgiven! Diana Ross & The Supremes with The Temptations

TCB
Motown, Mid 60s. Very Good Gatefold
One of the odder 60s LPs from the Supremes, the soundtrack to a film that starred the group, with some guest appearances by The Temptations – in Motown-show versions of tracks that often feature the singers lapsing into medleys of other tunes, or doing some popular hits of the day. Ozone

Lil Suzy
Motown, 1982. Near Mint-
A smoking batch of funky grooves that has a lot more edge than most of the other work going on at the label at the time!
