A well-rounded little set from Rose Royce – one that has the group hitting equally on uptempo funky tracks and chilled-out mellower numbers – the latter of which feature plenty of sweet moogy touches, in the group's best mode! There are standout moments, but overall the album has more of a cohesive flow than earlier ones, and the group sounds great – coming up with some excellent harmonies when needed, and dropping down to that sparer style of instrumentation on some of the record's best tracks. Titles include "Love Is In The Air", "You're A Winner", "And You Wish For Yesterday", "Funkin Around", "Help Yourself", and "I Wanna Make It With You". We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

An early funk album by Bill Cosby – with backing by the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band! Bill was pals with Charles Wright and crew in the hip LA of the late 60s, and he was also responsible for bringing the group to Warner Brothers – so the fit here is quite a natural one. Marvin Gaye's last album ever – and a sensuous batch of grooves that almost return him to the sound of Let's Get It On! On the floor and on the couch with Fatback – a record that's split into a "hot funk" side and a "mellow madness" one! The hot funk set continues the bass-heavy grooves that Fatback were famous for at the time – long jammers that take a 70s funk aesthetic into 80s ... LP, Vinyl record album

Atlantic, 1969. Very Good+
A wonderful session of hip soul jazz tracks from Freddie Hubbard – mostly short tight and groovy, but played with a sophisticated style that points the way towards the soul jazz sound of the 70s. One of the great albums that Pee Wee Russell recorded for Impulse during the late 60's, when they brought him back for some great comeback LPs in a number of different settings.
