LP, Vinyl record album

✈
❔

A classic album of classy vocals – one that helped set a whole new tone in 80s soul music! Anita had already gained a bit of experience on the soul scene before this set, but with this record she emerged as a full-formed diva who could effortlessly blend jazz and soul into a magnificent new sound. The production has a few touches that date the record a bit, but there's a timelessness to the set that was apparent to listeners the moment it was released. Titles include "Mystery", "No One In The World", "Sweet Love", "You Bring Me Joy", and "Caught Up In The Rapture".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(In original shrinkwrap with hype sticker. Includes the printed inner sleeve.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Patrice Rushen

Patrice
Elektra, 1978. Very Good+
A sweeeeeet groover by Patrice Rushen – her first album for Elektra, and a stunning blend of funky jazz and soul! BB & Q Band

Genie (Break)
Elektra, 1985. Very Good+
The last true classic from the masters of the 80s groove genre – a post-Capitol effort for Elektra, but one that's still awash in great keyboards and snapping electro beats! Some of the jazzier sound from the past is gone here, but in its place is a leaner, cleaner sound that's still a fair ... LP, Vinyl record album

Suzi Lane

Ooh La La
Elektra, 1979. Near Mint-
The only full length record we've ever seen from singer Suzi Lane – and a catchy batch of late 70s disco produced by Giorgio Moroder, but also featuring arrangements by Harold Faltermeyer – in a tuneful, hook-styled mode that's as sweet as can be! Suzi's vocals are the seductive and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Five Special

Special Edition
Elektra, 1980. Near Mint-
Classic funky soul from Five Special – tightly crafted throughout, and clearly with an eye on the charts – but also the kind of work that plays nicely on the dancefloor too! Terry Callier

Fire On Ice
Elektra, 1978. Very Good+
One of the great albums from Terry Callier's "second chapter" on record – a time when he was working for Elektra Records, and doing work that was a bit straighter soul than before – and also slightly jazzy as well! The record's kind of a mix of jazzy grooves and smoother soul ... LP, Vinyl record album

Twennynine With Lenny White

Best Of Friends
Elektra, 1979. Very Good+
Jazzy soul all the way through – and a great little album from Lenny White and the Twennynine combo – a group that features some especially great keyboards from the great Don Blackman! Five Special

Five Special
Elektra, 1979. Very Good+
The debut album from Five Special – a wonderful group who push an older harmony soul style firmly into the 80s groove generation! Isaac Hayes

New Horizon
Polydor, 1977. Very Good+
Great later work by Isaac Hayes – working here in a post-Stax, post-ABC mode that has him forging a smooth soul sound that's really great! The album's not disco, but more of an extension of Ike's baroque approach to arranging – with subtle use of strings and keyboards, in a real Philly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dennis Coffey

Back Home
Westbound, 1977. Very Good+
Later Dennis Coffey, but still with some groovy tracks, even though the production's a bit smoother and a little faster than his early stuff. With "Funk Connection", "Back Home", and "Wings of Fire". The guitar's still out front, and the whole thing's written and ... LP, Vinyl record album
