Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play,
but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic,
with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a
cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner
and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay,
though probably with surface noise.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
In the years after his death, when Otis Redding had approached near-deity status, Atlantic was digging through their vaults (recently swiped from Stax!) to find whatever they could to put together a record. Fortunately, most of the material they came up with was great – as you'll hear on ... LP, Vinyl record album
A classic full length set from The Coasters – and as much of a full album that brings together their best for Atlantic, as it is a collection of earlier material from singles! There's a really unified approach here – thanks to the group's really dynamic, surprisingly soulful vocal ... LP, Vinyl record album
A landmark set of grooves by this excellent Detroit group – a trio who recorded for the local indie Karen, but got a much bigger boost towards fame when their record was picked up by Atlantic! The set's one of the killer 60s Motor Town sets produced by Ollie McLaughlin – and like the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Sublime uptown soul from the great Ben E King – and session that has him paired with a young Claus Ogermann on arrangements! Although later a maestro of the heavy strings, at this point Ogermann's got a great little bounce in his backings – that German-trained use of the electric bass ... LP, Vinyl record album
Ok, so you might be sick of hearing "Stand By Me" over and over on oldies stations, but Ben's one of the greatest soul singers of the 60s, and checking out this greatest hits set, you'll be surprised at how many great songs he sung that you might not know! Nice ones include "That's ... LP, Vinyl record album
Although they were a UK soul act, Jimmy James and The Vagabonds were a perfect match for the Atlantic soul stable of the 60s. The group had a smooth group style that was partly uptown, partly northern soul – as clearly illustrated in this album, which is divided up into a "mood red: you ... LP, Vinyl record album
Post-August Darnell work by Dr Buzzard's Savannah Band – no longer using the "original" in their name! There's still a retro-styled feel here overall – with some of the swing-esque modes of earlier albums, but also a bit of rockabilly as well – an element that kind of ... LP, Vinyl record album
A big one for Billy Ocean – and a set that has the singer sounding even more confident and powerful than ever before! Ocean's not afraid of a hook by this point in his career, and the album's filled with the kind of catch crossover tune that Billy could do better than just about anyone else ... Excellent work from this smooth Chicago vocal group! The album may well be the best the group ever recorded – and it features some stellar ballad work produced with a nice spacey tone, almost in a Rose Royce mellow mode – by Jerry Butler's Fountain Productions team and by Clarence ... LP, Vinyl record album
Excellent early album from this great Philly soul group, featuring some of their best sides from the 60s, and lots of tracks that weren't released as singles! The band includes Vince Montana on vibes, Norman Harris and Bobby Eli on guitar, Leon Huff on piano, and Lenny Pakula on organ – and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Solid funky work from Ray Parker Jr & Raydio – a set that's lean and focused, and still very much in the earlier Raydio groove! Parker's still a bit away from the spotlight at this point – leaving the band to have the strongest role in the record, which is a great thing, given how ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the great End LPs by The Flamingos, who at this point were at their peak, and were recording with these amazing studio arrangements by Sammy Lowe. Lots of cool stuff in the same vein as "I Only Have Eyes For You", like "Besame Mucho", "You Belong To My Heart", ... LP, Vinyl record album
