Movies N Me

LP (Item 371601) RCA, 1974 — Condition: Sealed
Totally groovy work from John Dankworth – a 70s album that features slightly electrified versions of some of his older film and TV themes! The approach is quite different than the originals at times – with horn passages that are even quirkier, and some cool use of electric piano by Tony Hymas, which really sets the mood of the best tracks. The album's best known for its funky break version of "Modesty Blaise" – made famous by a sample from Del – but the whole thing's pretty great, both if you dig soundtrack work, and if you like the cooler big band styles of the British scene. Titles include "Modesty Blaise", "Long John", "Look Stranger", "Whirly Birly", "Round Table Round", "Herbie Walks Again", "All Gone", and "Morgan".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A very nice stripped-down set by Tony Scott – one of the most overlooked reed players of the 50s, and an artist who ventured into much more hippy-dippy oriented material during the 60s. It's About Time
RCA, 1962. Very Good+
Of course it's about time for Joe Morello – because as Dave Brubeck's drummer, he was constantly caught in recording sessions that were all about unusual rhythms and timings in jazz! God, we love this record – and we're not ashamed to admit it! Sure, it sold a gazillion copies – and sure, for some folks it showed the true demise of the Crusaders ensemble.
