❔

The speed garage producer slums for a minute and puts together 3LPs of looped beats and vocal bits off a handful of different hip hop records, using common samples and well known hits. Nothing special, but it's guaranteed to move the crowd, kind of like some of the stuff Nervous was putting out around the same time. 17 tracks on this version: "Pushem' Up", "Hot Butter", "We Came To Party", "Blakpeoplez", "Daaboodaa Munks", "Crooklyn Anthem", "Ultrafunkula", "Hood Movie Stars", "Word Up Doc", "Pulling G-Spots", "Puerto Rican Handclap", "This Is It!", "Out Of Frame", "Reservoir Dogs", "6 Minutes Of Funk", "Hey Yah Heh" and "Bounce".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Beastie Boys

Licensed To Ill
Def Jam, 1986. Good+
The game changing Def Jam classic! Profane party anthems galore, and the Beasties would distance themselves from much of the attitude of this album, making their career arc from stoopid (as opposed to stupid) to thoughtful and playful innovators one of the more interesting artistic evolutions of ... Cold Chillin, 1989. Very Good+
Remember the days when rappers would put pictures of their dancers on the cover of their records? Another Kane classic, with cold chillin' beats by Kane, Marley Marl, Prince Paul, Easy Mo Bee, Mister Cee, and a pre-new jack (well, barely) Teddy Riley. Roy Ayers

You Send Me
Polydor, 1978. Very Good+
A masterpiece – and don't pass it up! Sure, the date's a bit later than some of Roy's classic work, but the record's got a sound like no other – with a slow mellow jazzy style that shows Roy working at the height of his powers!
