Opera Do Malandro De Chico Buarque

LP (Item 366486) Philips (Brazil), 1979 — Condition: Very Good
2LP Gatefold
The classic recording of Chico Buarque's opera Malandro – done with the supervision of Chico himself, who also stars on vocals along with singers that include Gal Costa, Zizi Possi, MPB4, Nara Leao, Alcione, Moreira Da Silva, and Francis Hime. Hime handled the arrangements and directed the music – and titles include "O Malandro", "Viver De Amor", "Hino De Duran", "Terezinha", "O Meu Amor", "Pedaco De Mim", and "Opera".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Maria Bethania

Ciclo
Philips (Brazil), 1983. Very Good+
A nicely rootsy little album from Maria Bethania – recorded during a period when some of her music could often sound much fuller and more electric! The album's got subtle help from Toninho Horta, Dori Caymmi, and Guto Graca Mello – all of whom arrange Maria's vocals in a sophisticated ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gal Costa

Personalidade
Philips (Brazil), 1970s/Early 1980s. Near Mint-
Gal's always been one of Brazil's greatest artists – whether she was singing strange raw tunes during her Tropicalia period, or moving into nice jazzy material during her later years. This set's a good introduction to her work, and it includes a lot of nice tracks that we don't always turn ... LP, Vinyl record album
Philips (Brazil), Mid 60s. Very Good
A lively batch of pop samba stuff from this big Brazilian artist of the 60's. The tracks are all fairly uptempo, with a sing song rhythm sound, and a nice 60's Brazilian pop groove. Tracks include "Leva Meu Samba", "Saudade Dela", "Sai Do Meu Caminho", "Vida De ... LP, Vinyl record album
Philips (Brazil), Early 70s. Very Good Gatefold
An excellent collection of material from the end of the 60s – one of Brazil's most fertile times, musically, as is well documented on this set! The package features many great numbers that are hard to find on LP – including rare work by some of our favorite artists – and it's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Quinteto Violado

Berra-Boi
Philips (Brazil), 1973. Very Good+
A great early album by this instrumental combo from the 70s – and one that's a perfect realization of their mix of rootsy instrumentation with more jazzy conceptions. The arrangements on the record are by Toninho Alves, and tracks include "Tres Tres", "Cavalo Marinho", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chico Buarque

Chico Buarque (1978)
Philips (Brazil), 1978. Very Good+
One of Chico's strongest albums of the late 70s – a masterful set of sophisticated tunes, recorded with some great guest help from Milton Nascimento, Zizi Possi, and Elba Ramalho! The album's got a slightly melancholy feel overall – not completely somber, but a slightly world-weary ... LP, Vinyl record album
Philips (Brazil), 1965. Very Good-
Killer work by one of the best of all the bossa vocal groups! Os Cariocas had a sweet swinging style that reminded us a lot of the best American jazz quartets at the time, and on this album they're set in some wonderful arrangements that are a lot more complicated than some of their earlier ... LP, Vinyl record album
Philips (Brazil), 1970. Very Good
A brilliantly baroque Brazilian soundtrack – one of those early 70s gems that's filled with loads of excellent tunes! The album features arrangements by Dory Caymmi, Luiz Eca, and Waltel Blanco – all working with a set of unique artists to craft some totally great tunes done in the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dick Farney & Claudette Soares

Tudo Isto E Amor
EMI/Odeon (Brazil), 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold
Mid 70s and mellow work from two legendary Brazilian vocalists – the great Dick Farney and the lovely Claudette Soares, singing here in a set of duets that include a number of classic Brazilian tunes set to lush arrangements. The sound is very classic – kind of a 70s take on an older ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jorge Ben

Dadiva
Som Livre (Brazil), 1983. Near Mint-
A great bit of 80s soul from Jorge Ben – a record that has ol' Jorge looking a bit new wave on the cover, but which is filled with grooves that are every bit as strong as any of his late 70s work! The soul style is very firmly in place here – a bit more mainstream than before, but in a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Caetano Veloso

Caetano Veloso (1986)
Nonesuch, 1986. Near Mint-
A beautifully spare album from Caetano Veloso – one of his greatest albums of the 80s, and quite unlike anything else he did in the decade! The sound here is almost a bit like Joao Gilberto's classic 1973 album for Polydor – mostly just acoustic guitar and vocals, recorded with a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tim Maia

Tim Maia (1970)
Polydor (Brazil), 1970. Near Mint-
The incredible first album by Tim Maia – Brazil's greatest soul star in the 70s, and for good reason too – given that Tim was one of the few who could match the depth of American soul and funk at the time! Yet the music here is way more than just a Brazilian version of American soul ... LP, Vinyl record album
