State Of The Tenor – Live At The Village Vanguard Vol 2

LP (Item 365490) Blue Note, 1985 — Condition: Very Good+
A real moment of genius for Joe Henderson from the 80s – a spare trio session, recorded live at the Village Vanguard, in a mode that recalls Sonny Rollins classic sets there for Blue Note! And while Sonny often performed heavily in a trio setting, unfettered by chords in the rhythm section – this is a unique date for Joe, and he sounds brilliant throughout! Ron Carter and Al Foster provide a crisp but elastic foundation for Henderson's burnished melodies and solos in a very spacious setting – and this second volume features the tracks "Boo Boo's Birthday", "Cheryl", "Y Ya La Quiero", "Soulville", and "The Bead Game".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Foreign Intrigue
Blue Note, 1985. Near Mint-
An intriguing little set from drummer Tony Williams – and a set that shows him still very much in command of his talents well into the 80s! One of Grant Green's late great funky albums for Blue Note! A great little record, filled with loads of cross-cultural influences that make for one of the most exotic Herbie Mann albums of the 60s! Epic, 1977. Very Good
Sure, it's after the Blue Note/Larry Mizell years – but Bobbi's still kicking ass!
