Disco-fied

LP (Item 36436) ABC, 1976 — Condition: Very Good+
Sure, the group might have been a throwaway pop disco combo – but they sure left us with some nice moments! If you take them at face value, you'd put them at the bottom of a long list of 70s disco artists that were here today, gone tomorrow. But if you listen to some of their classic TV/movie theme tracks – like "Barretta's Theme", "Three Days Of The Condor", and the always-great "Theme From SWAT" – you'll never forget them! Those three cuts are worth the price of the album alone, and they make us long for the days when all we had to do was turn on the TV to hear great funk!  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Last Night On Earth
ABC, 1977. Very Good+
Sweet funky grooves from one of the greatest instrumental acts of the mainstream disco era! Despite the fact that these guys had a chart-topping sound, they also managed to include enough funky moments in their records to hold the attention of our ears – including some well-crafted wah-wah ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC/Dunhill, 1972. Near Mint-
Killer Four Tops material from the early 70s – and a record that proved that they didn't need to be on Motown to still keep churnin' out the hits! The sound is sophisticated, and pushes past the standard format of the group's good-selling records for Motown – hitting a classic AM Radio ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ray Charles

Crying Time
ABC, 1966. Near Mint-
Ray Charles at the height of his 60s powers – maybe not his first album of country-tinged material, but a set that has Ray drawing on all the strengths of previous sessions for Tangerine, then really sending the whole thing over the top! The arrangements are superb – handled by Onzy ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC, 1964. Very Good+
A compilation of soul and rock stormers, put together loosely around the ABC music show Shindig. There is some nice stuff by The Tams ("The Hurtin Kind"), The Impressions ("Love Is A Mystery"), The Sapphires ("Why Don't You Let Yourself Go"), and Fats Domino. The ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC, Early 70s. Near Mint- Gatefold
An obscure funky rockin' bluesy combo, with an integrated lineup, and instrumentation that includes organ, guitar, bass, and drums. The tracks are all originals, with a funky feel to them, and some good grooves on the best tracks. The lead singer's in kind of an Eric Burdon mode – but on the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Isaac Hayes & Dionne Warwick

Man & A Woman
ABC, 1977. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A wonderful duet set from Ike Hayes and Dionne Warwick – one that draws on the classiest side of the Hayes spectrum, and uses his groove to help Dionne find some great new energy! Even in performance, the music has that great rich quality that Isaac always brought to his solo recordings in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rufus & Chaka Khan

Street Player
ABC, 1978. Very Good+ Gatefold
Stunning work from Rufus & Chaka Khan – still very much at the height of their powers on this late 70s release – and still doing things at a level that nobody else can touch! The blend of jazz and soul is completely sublime – given a bit of extra help on arrangements by Clare ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC, 1978. Very Good+
Although not as instantly captivating as their work for Stax, this set for ABC is still a pretty darn great group soul album! The group haven't lost their touch vocally – and Ron Banks and LJ Reynolds are still incredible singers that push smooth soul to a whole new level. The album ... LP, Vinyl record album

Johnnie Taylor

Eargasm
Columbia, 1976. Very Good+
A landmark album from Johnnie Taylor – a set that not only gave his career a giant boost, but which also helped shift southern soul into hip new territory in the late 70s! The music's a great change from Taylor's previous work at Stax – and the set features warm production from Don ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hi Records, 1974. Very Good+
Easily our favorite album ever by Ann Peebles – not just for the beathead title track, but also because it seems to be the one record where she brings a bit something extra to the studio! The sound is certainly in the classic Hi Records mode here – thanks to production by Willie ... LP, Vinyl record album

O'Jays

Survival
Philadelphia International, 1975. Very Good+
Heady sounds from The O'Jays – a set that continues the more righteous side of the style they developed on early 70s Philadelphia International – a great mix of modes that sometimes has the trio sharing some of the political spirit of The Temptations with Norman Whitfield, and sometimes ... Brass Construction

Brass Construction II
United Artists, 1976. Near Mint-
The second album from Brass Construction – heavy horns, basslines, and stellar dancefloor grooves – a stone classic! The first one was totally great, but they cast a wider stylistic claim on II – their trademark funky sound is still very firmly in place, but they bring more to ... LP, Vinyl record album
