World Within

LP (Item 361359) MCA, 1979 — Condition: Very Good
Gatefold

A classic Crusaders side-project from the end of the 70s – featuring Stix on drums and percussion, plus lots of sweet keyboards from Joe Sample! The set features plenty of great guest work too – with west coast fusion luminaries that include Bobby Hutcherson, Alphonson Johnson, Todd Cochrane, and Roland Bautista joining in from time to time. Production is by the whole Crusaders team, and the album's got a smooth jazzy groove throughout. Features a nice remake of "Little Drummer Boy", plus "Brazos River Breakdown", "African Spirit", "Rum Or Tequila", "Passion", and "Jasmine Breeze".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(In the die-cut cover with a promo stamp.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Deodato

First Cuckoo
MCA, 1975. Very Good+
Key proof that Deodato kept on making great records after leaving CTI Records – and in a way, the kind of set that allowed him a bit more freedom to grow than some of his contemporaries! The vibe here is a bit tighter than before, but in a way that makes many numbers even funkier – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Crusaders

Free As The Wind
MCA, 1977. Near Mint-
The Crusaders are really going strong at this point – in near-hit status, almost acting as the Steely Dan of LA jazz. The sound is certainly slicker than before, but in a way that's actually pretty darn nice – as Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, Stix Hooper, and Larry Carlton come together ... LP, Vinyl record album

The Crusaders at their late 70s smooth jazz best – completely confident in the sound of their groove, and unabashedly working in a tight studio setting on longer tracks that helped forever change the sound of mainstream funky jazz! Blowin' The Blues Away
Blue Note, 1959. Sealed
A killer session from Horace's famous quintet that included Blue Mitchell, Junior Cook, Gene Taylor, and Louis Hayes – one of the group's earliest recordings for Blue Note – and also one of their best! The band had a unique mix of rootsy soul jazz playing and more exotic approaches to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Charles Earland

Kharma
Prestige, 1975. Near Mint-
A soaring live set that's definitely overflowing with good kharma – given that Charles Earland is hitting the more spiritual side of his talents here! CTI, 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold
The 4th in Bob James legendary run of Fender Rhodes classics for CTI – and a record that still has him working with the dark edges that made the first few so great! Prestige, 1966. Very Good
Great early Eric Kloss record, with a tight organ jazz feel, courtesy of Groove Holmes and Don Patterson.
