Ain't No Bout-A-Doubt It

LP (Item 35915) Warner, 1975 — Condition: Near Mint-
One of the high points of Larry Graham's career – a hard-jamming set of guitar-based funk that forever put Graham Central Station on the map! There's a virtuosity to the record that's really stunning – bass, guitar, and drums all dropping into place magically alongside one another – while still managing to come across with a relaxed soulful approach that definitely makes this one more heavy funk than later years. Titles include "The Jam", "It's Alright", "I Can't Stand The Rain", "It Ain't Nothin But A Warner Bros Party", and "Easy Rider".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Randy Crawford

Now We May Begin
Warner, 1980. Very Good+
A great little album cut by Randy during the height of her career! She'd just broken big with her vocals on "Street Life" by the Crusaders – and although that track's not on here, the Crusaders team of Wilton Felder, Stix Hooper, and Joe Sample produced the album, and have given it ... Chaka Khan

Chaka
Warner, 1978. Near Mint-
The classic late 70s solo debut by Chaka Khan – one that made Chaka a major star, and deservedly so! This beautiful album showed that she could stand very well on her own two feet without the help of Rufus, thank you. Of course, she's got some fantastic help from Arif Mardin, who works as ... Lorraine Ellison

Stay With Me
Warner, 1969. Near Mint-
Deep deep soul from Lorraine Ellison – a record that already shows quite a bit of growth from her earlier Warner Brothers recordings – and a new sense of hipness as well! Willie Hutch

Midnight Dancer
Whitfield/Warner, 1979. Near Mint-
A sweet mix of clubby tracks and mellower moments from Willie Hutch – and an overlooked gem from his late 70s years on Whitfield Records! A big new chapter for Prince in the 90s – his first set with the New Power Generation, and a record that definitely has him amping up his game for the decade! Curtis Mayfield & Linda Clifford

Right Combination
Curtom/RSO, 1980. Near Mint-
An album of duets that Curtis cut with rising disco star Linda Clifford – who by 1980 may well have been earning more money for Curtom than Curtis! The album's about half disco tracks, half soul duets in a Chicago mode – and arrangements are by Gil Askey and Norman Harris. Tracks ... LP, Vinyl record album

Street Corner Symphony

Harmony Grits
Bang, 1975. Near Mint-
Funky uptempo vocal group soul – in that "doo wop for the clubs" kind of style that a some east coast acts were using at the time. A huge 80s moment for the Isley Brothers empire – a set that has Ernie and Marvin Isley stepping away from the main group with Chris Jasper – to reinvent their sound for the 80s! The record still has all the slinky soul and upbeat funk of the Isley material from the late 70s – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Persuasions

We Came To Play
Capitol, Mid 70s. Near Mint-
A beautiful group soul vocals effort from the Persuasions in the early 70s – working in a throwback acapella mode, but still with a fresh feel – thanks to a hip dawn of the 70s sound, and a stripped-down feel that you'd probably have never gotten back in the day! It's amazing how fresh ... LP, Vinyl record album
