Greatest Hits

LP (Item 358305) ABC, 1970s — Condition: Very Good
2LP Gatefold

We've always considered Steely Dan one of the quintessential 70s "Album Oriented Rock" bands, in that all of there albums work so well as a whole, so the idea of a greatest hits collection doesn't exactly work for us. Still, taken out of context, these songs are still gems, and listening to them in sequence really lets you hear the groups progression from their intellectual rock roots to their later sophisticated jazz influenced style. 18 tracks in all: "Do It Again", "Reeling InThe Years", "My Old School", "Bodhisattva", "Show Biz Kids", "East St Louis Toodle Oo", "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Pretzel Logic", "Any Major Dude", "Here At The Western World", "Black Friday", "Bad Sneakers", "Doctor Wu", "Haitian Divorce", "Kid Charlemagne", "The Fez", "Peg" and "Josie".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(80s MCA non-gatefold pressing. Cover is worn.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Magical music from the team of Donald Fagan and Walter Becker – one of those records that seems to state its existence in simple, straightforward terms – but which is also filled with undeniably complex moments! The first album from Steely Dan, and already a leading light in the world of 70s rock! John Mayall

Banquet In Blues
ABC, 1976. Near Mint-
70s work from British blues rock legend John Mayall – done in a Cali style that still holds on to his roots, but gives the music a leaner, funkier style overall! The vibe's a bit like Mayall's record with Allen Toussaint, although John's on his own here – tightly refining his older ... LP, Vinyl record album

When we were playing this, someone in the office said "What's the deal with these guys? Did they just do sound-a-like versions of other people's hits?" On some of their other records, we might say no – but this one's pretty much a Pickwick-esque remake/remodel of late 60s rockers ... LP, Vinyl record album

Seed Of Memory
ABC, 1976. Near Mint-
A bit later than Terry Reid's real classics, but also a surprisingly nice little record – even if the sound is different! Graham Nash produced, and the record has a style that mixes raspy vocals and acoustic guitar with some sweeter, smoother touches – almost an LA fantasy of country ... LP, Vinyl record album
