This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap.
We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't
look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time,
we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape —
which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be
torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played,
the record will still qualify as "Sealed".
Condition Notes
If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially
if it is release or pressing details,
or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
A pretty interesting live set from Monk – one of his few larger group recordings of the 60s, recorded in Paris with a nonet that features Ray Copeland and Clark Terry on trumpets, Jimmy Cleveland on trombone, Phil Woods on alto, and Charlie Rouse and Johnny Griffin on tenor. The tracks are ... LP, Vinyl record album
Very late work from the legendary Thelonious Monk – but surprisingly great as well! The session was recorded in London – as you might guess from the title – and although Monk's not working with his regular quartet with Charlie Rouse, he does interact wonderfully with a trio that ... Thelonious Monk on piano joined by Larry Gales, Ben Riley, Charlie Rouse, Wilbur Ware, Shadow Wilson, John Coltrane, Phil Woods, Johnny Griffin, Jimmy Cleveland & Ray ... LP, Vinyl record album
Nice 2LP set that brings together a large amount of material by Monk that was recorded during the 60s, but never issued at the time. Most of the material is live, and some of the tracks did come out previously in edited form – but this collection (like so many of the other great Columbia 70's ... LP, Vinyl record album
Sharp live set, recorded in Monk's best setting, The Five Spot, with Johnny Griffin, Ahmed Abdul-Malik, and Roy Haynes. The material is classic comeback Monk – with those off-kilter piano lines in front, and Griffin's horn carving up angular spots around the rhythms. The group runs through ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the most gimmicky cover images ever used to sell the music of Thelonious Monk (and Monk himself hated the image) – but a key classic from his legendary years at Columbia Records! The album's got an edge that definitely lives up to its title – even if the cover photo is a bad ... LP, Vinyl record album
A record that documents a meeting of two giants of modern jazz in the 50s – the angular genius Thelonious Monk, and the younger John Coltrane – a tenor player who was probably better-known for his work with Miles Davis during this period! The recordings are more Monk's than Coltrane's ... LP, Vinyl record album
Some excellent Monk from the mid 50s – recorded between the early Blue Note sides and the later revolutionary ones for Riverside, all featuring Monk in some pretty heavy tenor company! Side one features Monk playing with Frank Foster, Ray Copeland, Curley Russell, and Art Blakey – on ... LP, Vinyl record album
A 2LP set that brings together 2 Monk big band recordings from the 60s – one live and arranged by Oliver Nelson from 1963, one studio and arranged by Hall Overton in 1968. Titles include "Let's Cool One", "I Mean You", "Oska T", "Four In One", "Tri ... LP, Vinyl record album
Monk plays unaccompanied on a mix of standards and originals, including "Monk's Point", "Dinah", "Ruby, My Dear", "Ask Me Now", and a classic version of "I Surrender, Dear" – done spare and moodily, with a really haunting tone! LP, Vinyl record album
Notable players include Howard Johnson, Wayman Carver, Ernest Hill, Mezz Mezzrow, Teddy Wilson, Chu Berry, Wilbur De Paris, and Max Kaminsky. LP, Vinyl record album
Nice 2LP set that brings together a huge amount of pivotal work from the early bop years of Diz, including titles recorded for the Guild and Musicraft labels, as well as Prestige. The set's an essential one, because although you often hear references to this material, most of it was originally ... LP, Vinyl record album
