Memorias De Um Sargento De Milicias

LP (Item 35763) RCA (Brazil), 1971 — Condition: Near Mint-
Beautifully produced samba tracks by the great Martinho Da Vila! The style of the recording is great, and it's got a lively airy sound that brings out the best in Martinho's voice – and which keeps the percussion backing from getting too heavy-handed. Tracks are a nice batch of compositions by Martinho, Paulinho Da Viola, Ataulfo Alves, and others – with titles like "Segure Tudo", "A Flor E O Samba", "Dia Final", "O Nosso Olhar, "Quem Pode, Pode", "Para Voce, Felicidade", and "Memorias De Um Sargento De Milicias".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Miucha & Antonio Carlos Jobim
RCA (Brazil), 1977. Very Good
A pretty darn sweet vocal session from the duo of Miucha and Antonio Carlos Jobim – recorded with lots of bossa overtones, very much the same spirit as the legendary Elis & Tom album of the mid 70s! Chico Buarque participates in the session, and Jobim even lends his vocal talents to a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tight orchestral material from Zaccarias, and featuring a set of bossa and samba groovers played by a heavy ensemble reed section. The multiple reed approach works well, and gives the tracks a good punch that while not sounding exactly like classic bossa, does make them groove in a swinging way. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Certain Smile, Certain Sadness
Verve, 1966. Near Mint-
Kind of a dream combination in one little album – especially if you dig breezy bossa from the 60s! Classic bossa mixed with more ambitious touches for the 70s – easily one of the greatest records ever to come from the team of Vinicius and Toquinho! A great 70s album from this excellent Brazilian harmony group! Their sound is a different from that of Quarteto Em Cy or Tamba Trio, and their singing is less filled with straight jazzy harmonies than it is some off-kilter vocal lines that weave together and challenge each other throughout the ... The greatest and grooviest hits from Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 – that completely charming little group that really warmed up pop at the end of the 60s!
