Big Throwdown

LP (Item 356817) Atlantic, 1987 — Condition: Used
Temporarily Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

A huge breakthrough from Levert – the group's third album, and a record that's filled with some really top-shelf R&B for the time! The tracks are a great transition in soul styles – classic harmony vocal sounds, produced with a slowjam style that's totally great – a bit like quiet storm of the 80s, but with more of a street edge overall! The mellowest moments are the best ones – and titles include "Casanova", "Throwdown", "My Forever Love", "In N Out", "Temptation", and "Don't U Think It's Time". (Cover has a cutout notch.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A full album of Canadian disco from the mighty Suzy Q – an album that follows nicely on her hit of the same name! A great batch of sophisticated soul tracks, with sweet Philly arrangements by Thom Bell, and nice studio work by the usual suspects. Atlantic, 1978. Near Mint-
By the time Roberta released this self titled LP in '78, she'd already established herself as one of the most important voices in soul during the 70s, alongside Donny Hathaway, with whom she cut many classics. While this album is missing some of the wonderful dynamic they shared, it's still a ... LP, Vinyl record album

A sweet 70s classic from Roberta Flack – recorded with a mellow jazzy undercurrent that really fits the spirit of the title! The great Leroy Burgess is still going strong on this later album from Aleem – shifting his sound to hit more of an 80s street soul groove, but one that's also got the tighter elements you'd expect from a major label set at the time! Hilltak/Atlantic, 1979. Near Mint-
A classy disco project arranged and produced by Willie Henderson – done in a mode that's got less of the jazz funk touches of some of his other late 70s work, and with an approach that's got a fairly straightforward clubby sound. Lead vocals on the set are by Patti Williams – a singer ... LP, Vinyl record album

Essential New Orleans piano from Professor Longhair – an artist who was neither a professor, nor a man with much hair! A 70s album, issued at a time when Esther Phillips was really riding high with her records on the Kudo label – but a set that brings together unissued sides recorded for Atlantic in the 60s! Atlantic, 1980. Very Good
One of the most dancefloor-oriented efforts from the Trammps – and that's saying a lot, given the sound of their other records!
