Dig (Conception/Early Miles)

LP (Item 35678) Prestige, 1951/1953 — Condition: Sealed
2LP Gatefold
A 70s 2LP set that brings together some key material from Miles first few years at Prestige – tunes that were mostly issued on the albums Early Miles and Conception. The work is about as classic as you can get from Miles' early years – with players that include Sonny Rollins on tenor, Bennie Green on trombone, Jackie McLean on alto, John Lewis or Walter Bishop on piano, and Roy Haynes, Art Blakey, or Kenny Clarke on drums. Some tracks get quite long for the time, and the set includes the classic "Dig", a great reading of "It's Only A Paper Moon", and the tracks "Denial", "Down", "Morpheus", "Bluing", "Conception", "Willie The Wailer", "Tasty Pudding", "For Adults Only", and "Out Of The Blue".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Decoy
Columbia, 1984. Near Mint- Gatefold
The decoy here might be in the rhythms, which are often electric, but still played live – handled by Robert Irving III on many tracks, with a cool 80s fusion sound that's mighty nice! The style of the album's a nice change from the Miles groove of the 70s – a bit leaner, with almost a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kind Of Blue

What can we say? This is the ultimate Miles Davis album – the one that includes so many songs that we've heard way too much in Starbucks, in retail stores, or at a friend's house who claims to be a "jazz expert", but is really a yuppie dilettante. A much different album than you might expect from the cover – hardly the funky 70s set implied by the Big Fun-styled cover – and instead a lost slice of work from his groundbreaking late 60s years! A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects! Miles Davis makes the electric transition – in this groundbreaking set from the late 60s!
