❔

Fantastic early work from George Clinton! "Time" is classic late 60s Parliaments – with a fuzzy Detroit soul sound that shows a lot of Clinton's psychedelic influences. "Good Old Music" is even better though – and is a monster funky number that begins with a stone drumbreak that is extremely tasty! The rest of the cut's great, too – and it's got a great mix of funk and guitars, with a really tight sound!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Pink label pressing with Bell Sound/ARP stamps. Labels have some wear and a peeled spot.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Revilot, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Funky work from Little Sonny! "We Got A Groove" is a hard-romping number with more soul than blues – Sonny on vocals and harmonica, and a nice little vamp in the backing! "Sonny's Bag" is an instrumental – similarly grooving, with guitar, organ, and harmonica doing ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

We love the Montclairs! They were one of the best harmony groups of the early 70s, and they had a nice super-dope style that made their material sound a bit heavier than some of their contemporaries. Both tracks on this one are nice, and feature arrangements by Phil Perry. 7-inch, Vinyl record
Blue Note, 1975. Very Good
A classic from Donald Byrd – a wonderful number done in collaboration with Larry Mizell – and a mad mix of Latin and jazz funk grooving! Simply sublime – with a soulful feel that grabs you from the first note! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Two sides of straight soul bop by this Chicago tenor legend from the south side! This is the kind of jazz that still gets played in tiny lounges all over the city – not cutting edge, or totally funky, but with a nice deep bottom, and a lot of soul. A great peek at a lost tradition in ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

His biggest hit, and a monster early southern soul track! The b-side's a classic too, and this single's a treat to have because Arthur's other vinyl is so hard to find! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Toddlin Town, Late 60s. Very Good-
One of Alvin's funkiest tracks ever, and a killer groove put together at the end of the 60's with the funky Scott Brothers Orchestra backing him up. The track's got a razor-sharp guitar that chops through the whole thing with amazing precision – and the instrumental side has some nice funky ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Beautiful! "Fool Like Me" has everything you'd want in a sweet soul track from the 70's: a nice spoken intro, cool spacey production (by James VanLeer), and a very nice track about heartbreak and shame. Great stuff, and a track that should have been more of a classic! 7-inch, Vinyl record
