A touch of Billy Taylor, but that's more than enough – as his trio here can pack plenty into just a very short space! The set's an early classic that features Billy with his legendary trio with bassist Earl May and drummer Percy Brice – a group who really transformed the sound of the piano in jazz, and set a whole new rhythmic scope for decades to come! The tracks are mostly short and simple, and done in Taylor's warmly rhythmical approach to the keys – a groove that was clearly informed by the hardbop of the time, but which laid back in a much more soulful formation.
