❔
The adult film star who became a chart act – and thanks to some very skillful help from Gregg Diamond, who wrote, produced, and arranged the whole record, the title cut "More, More, More" went onto become a huge dancefloor classic. The album features a 6 minute version of the cut – plus "Fill Me Up", "Call Me", "Party Line", and "Keep It Up Longer".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Still sealed, with a cut corner and bumped corners.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Gladys Knight & The Pips

Imagination
Buddah, 1973. Very Good+
A pivotal album for Gladys Knight and group – as the record features their super-huge hit "The Midnight Train To Georgia", a landmark track that not only had a catchy pop hook, but which spoke volumes about African-American migration in the postwar years. The track's one of those ... LP, Vinyl record album
Buddah/Vee Jay, Early 70s. Near Mint-
A great collection of soul, mostly from the legendary Vee Jay label in Chicago, plus a few more classics from New Orleans. Titles include "A Million To One" by Jimmy Charles, "You Can Make It If You Try" by Gene Allison, "Ya Ya" by Lee Dorsey, "All In My ... LP, Vinyl record album

Phyllis Hyman

Living All Alone
Philadelphia International, 1986. Very Good+
Sparkling modern soul from the lovely Phyllis Hyman – and an album that has the singer picking up the wonderfully smooth groove that had become the Philly International sound of the mid 80s. This format works surprisingly well for Phyllis – quite possibly more so than it did even for ... LP, Vinyl record album

Whispers

Life & Breath
Janus, 1972. Very Good+
One of their best LPs from the early 70's, back when they were less uptempo, and still focusing on good group harmony cuts that had more of a traditional mix of ballads and midtempo tracks. The LP includes a nice moody cover of "Speak Softly Love", plus "Here Comes Tomorrow", ... LP, Vinyl record album
World Pacific, 1969. Very Good Gatefold
A sweet album of funky guitar tracks, with Freddy Robinson out front over a bunch of tight LA Monk Higgins arrangements. Kind of a sleeper that hasn't really gotten as many props in the groove scene as it ought to, with a great sunny west coast 60s soul jazz vibe running throughout. Joe Sample ... Donny Hathaway

Best Of Donny Hathaway
Atco, Early 70s. Very Good+
A classic overview of the too-short career of 70s soul genius Donny Hathaway – issued by Atlantic Records right after Donny was taken from us all too soon! There's a really nice mix of tracks here – album cuts and singles, and tunes that show both the farther reaches of sophisticated ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1966. Very Good+
Pivotal work from Esther Phillips – and maybe for 60s female soul as well – as the set has the once-raw singer really taking a hip, sophisticated twist – using some jazzy backings to really up her game, and find a whole new level of expression! Her version of the Beatles title ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jerry Butler

Sagittarius Movement
Mercury, 1971. Very Good+
One of the great albums of trippy soul that Jerry Butler cut with his Fountain Productions group of players, arrangers, and engineers – a group that borrowed a lot of talent from the Chess/Cadet studios of the late 60s. Jerry produced with Gerald Sims, and the arrangements were handled by ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bohannon

Bohannon
Dakar, 1975. Very Good+
A massive amount of fast funk groovers from the mighty Hamilton Bohannon – just the kind of skittish, upbeat, and totally amazing tracks that have made him a legend for years! The sound is really stripped down – usually just bass, drums, and guitar – wrapped together in this ... LP, Vinyl record album
Cameo, Mid 60s. Very Good+
Well, they certainly got the title right on this one! Dee Dee sings all the hits (or some of them, at least!) in her youthful gutsy soul style. Tracks include "Snap Your Fingers", "Seven Day Weekend", "Playboy", "Don't Play That Song", "Village Of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Brunswick, 1961. Very Good+
You certainly ain't heard nothin, not until you hear this very strangely conceived set of Jackie doing a tribute to Al Jolson! We could condemn this, but we actually find it pretty fascinating, as it confirms the strange black following that Jolson had, even though you would've expected him to ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC, 1975. Very Good+
Great work by one of the archetypal funky soul bands of the 70s – and a group whose impact is still being felt today! Of course, one of the reasons for that is Chaka Khan's incredible vocals – caught here at a prime early point, and very nicely set against some warm electric keyboards ... LP, Vinyl record album
