LP (Item 352899) Verve, 1964 — Condition: Very Good+

A key example of the popularity of the Oscar Peterson Trio in the mid 60s – an album of tracks that listeners wanted to hear done in the group's familiar style! The tunes are simple ones, mostly standards and 60s covers – but they're done by Oscar, Ray Brown, and Ed Thigpen in a mode that grooves along with lots of warm melodic touches! Titles include "The Girl From Ipanema", "Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars", "Have You Met Miss Jones", "Days Of Wine & Roses", "D&E", and "Time & Again".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Stereo MGM pressing. Cover has light aging along the opening.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

With Respect To Nat
Limelight, 1965. Very Good+
Oscar Peterson pays tribute to the late Nat King Cole – not only on piano, but also with a bit of vocals as well! Given how rarely Oscar sings on record, the album's a real treat – especially as his vocals capture the spirit of Cole surprisingly well – not exactly like Nat, but ... LP, Vinyl record album
MPS, 1968. Near Mint-
The first of a series of great "private" recordings that Oscar Peterson did for the MPS label in the late 60s – sessions done at the home of label owner Hans Georg Brunner Schwer, in a laidback and easygoing style that's different than some of his American work of the time! The ... LP, Vinyl record album

California Dreaming
Verve, 1966. Near Mint-
A stone classic on Verve! Back in the 60s, Wes Montgomery must have been California Dreamin – because by the time of this LP, he'd come a long way from his Indiana roots – and had used the best part of the hip west coast scene to add a lot to his style – fuller rhythms and ... Charlie Parker takes on the music of Cole Porter – with results that make for some of his most classic moments at Verve! A Verve album that pairs the avant garde clarinet of Jimmy Giuffre with the orchestrations of the String Section of the Sudwestfunk Orchestra of Baden-Baden.
