Interaction (2LP set)

LP (Item 352488) Cadet, 1956/1960/1965 — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold
A 2LP set that features the core album Interaction by Stitt & Sims – plus a lot of additional material from other albums. The core set was recorded in Chicago after the two had played together at the Plugged Nickel in the Windy City! Backing is by the trio of John Young – who gives the album a rolling bottom groove that shows off the Chicago sound of the early 60s quite nicely – and both Stitt and Sims respond with some strong solo work on their own part, opening up a bit more than on other sides at the time. Tracks include three originals by Stitt – "The Saber", "Katea", and "I Want To Go Home" – as well as "My Blue Heaven", "Fools Rush In", and "Look Down That Lonesome Road". Added to that is some material from the Zoot Sims Quartet album on Argo from 1956 – featuring the tracks "That Old Feeling" and "Woody N You" – plus tracks from the 1960 Stitt set Burning – including the tracks "It's Hipper Than That" and "How High The Moon".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has ring and edge wear, and a catalog number in gold marker at the top on front and back.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Reuben Wilson & The Cost Of Living

Got To Get Your Own
Cadet, 1975. Very Good+
Monster funk from Hammond hero Reuben Wilson – an album of hard-burning, bad-walking tunes that are a fair bit different than most of his other work! Although Wilson recorded some pretty traditional organ jazz for the Blue Note and Groove Merchant labels, this album has him working with his ... LP, Vinyl record album

Al Grey

Basic Grey
Argo/Cadet, Early 60s. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
Great work from Al Grey – one of the most soulful trombonists of his time – all pulled from the Chess/Argo albums Last Of The Big Plungers, Snap Your Fingers and Al Grey Billy Mitchell Sextet LPs! Easily some of Grey's hippest work – with players who include Billy Mitchell on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ramsey Lewis

Groover
Cadet, Mid 60s/1972. Very Good+
A set of classic Ramsey Lewis recordings with his trio of Eldee Young and Redd Holt, all of which were recorded during the 60s for Argo/Chess, but not released until this set in 1972. The tracks all came from the same live set that spawned the group's hit single version of "Hang On ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ray Bryant

Slow Freight
Cadet, 1966. Very Good
A killer album by soul jazz pianist Ray Bryant! The title track, "Slow Freight", is an amazing 10 minute groover that moves at a very slow pace (just like a freight train), and which features some very cool ad-lib talking by Paul Serrano – a pretty groovy touch that really adds a ... Gene Ammons

Makes It Happen
Cadet, 1950. Near Mint-
An interesting album for Gene Ammons – one that was issued in the late 60s with a very sexy-looking cover, but which actually features recordings of much earlier vintage! The sides on the set were recorded in 1950, and they've got a sound that's moody, echoey, and which shows the soulfulness ... LP, Vinyl record album

Woody Herman

Light My Fire
Cadet, 1968. Near Mint-
A masterpiece – one of 2 crazy albums in which Woody Herman's late band meets the Cadet arrangements of Richard Evans. You might think the combination wouldn't work – Woody's big band flourishes meeting up with Evans' compressed soulful grooves – but gosh, the record is simply ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ray Bryant

Lonesome Traveler
Cadet, 1966. Very Good+
An excellent example of the massive groove that Ray Bryant set up during his 60s years at Cadet – a simple soul jazz trio style, but augmented with dual horn backing – which makes for a tightly stepping sound that's all-soulful, all the way! Bryant's left hand is nice and hard on the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ray Bryant Trio

Gotta Travel On
Cadet, 1966. Very Good+
A stone groover from the great Ray Bryant – one of his brilliant albums for Cadet from the 60s! A 70s 2-fer that combines 2 albums recorded for Cadet in the mid 60s – one issued under Nelson's name, the other under Lou Donaldson's, but both featuring arrangements by Nelson. The Nelson LP is a pretty darn nice session in which Nelson is the lead soloist with a large group that includes ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ramsey Lewis

Goin' Latin
Cadet, 1966. Very Good
Goin Latin, and goin groovy too – thanks to some wonderful arrangements from Chicago soul legend Richard Evans – who really helps Ramsey Lewis open up his sound on the set! The format's less straight Latin than you might expect from the title – and Evans brings in a bouncing, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Maynard Parker

Midnight Rider
Prestige, 1973. Near Mint-
A lesser-known funky jazz side from the early 70s Prestige years – one of the only sets we've ever seen from guitarist Maynard Parker, cut in a sweetly laidback style that's not unlike the Kudu Records groove! Parker's on hollow-body electric out front – working with small combo ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mal Waldron

Mal 3 – Sounds
Prestige, 1958. Near Mint-
A really wonderful album from Mal Waldron – quite different than most of his other records from the 50s, and done with a righteous undercurrent that almost points the way towards the Strata East generation of the 70s! The set's one of Mal's few 50s albums as a leader to feature horns ... LP, Vinyl record album
