❔
Some of the best early work by Prez – all recorded in small combo sessions for Aladdin Records during the years 1945 through 1948. The album's one of the few chances you can get to hear Prez blowing clear and free from the time, in that amazing tone which inspired generations of players, which works perfectly in groupings with players that include Dodo Marmarosa, Willie Smith, Curtis Counce, Chico Hamilton, Irving Ashby, and Roy Haynes. Titles include "No Eyes Blues", "DB Blues", "Jumpin At Mesners", "Lester's Be Bop", "Lester Leaps In", "East Of The Sun", "Just Cooling", and "Lester Smooths It Out".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(70s issue. Cover has a wavy lower corner with wear & light staining– but the rest is great.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Charlie Parker, Early 50s. Near Mint-

Hank Mobley

Soul Station
Blue Note, 1960. Near Mint-
One of the key classics from the hardbop years of Blue Note – the kind of album that really set the label apart from the rest at the time! Blue Note, 1957. Very Good-
Smashing early work from Jimmy Smith – a killer set from 1957 that has him going head to head with some of Blue Note's finest players! The album marks one of the first time Jimmy played with such greats – and one of the first time they played with an organist – and the lineup ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, 1956. Near Mint-
One of the few American albums by Jutta Hipp – a key figure in the German jazz scene of the postwar years, recording here at the Hickory House in New York! Blue Note, 1986. Near Mint-

Three Sounds

Moods
Blue Note, 1960. Very Good
"Moods" is right – as the album's got a wonderfully dark undercurrent, one that makes it one of the most captivating early Three Sounds albums for Blue Note!
