Super Hits

LP (Item 35081) RCA, 1976 — Condition: Near Mint-

A tasty collection of work from the second era of the Main Ingredient – after the death of original member Donald McPherson, and during the time when Tony Silvester was leaving the group to work on his ill-planned solo career. Cuba Gooding Sr is lead vocalist on all tracks – and the record features 2 great Leon Ware tunes – "Instant Love" and "Rolling Down A Mountainside" – plus "Just Don't Want To Be Lonely, "Shame On The World", and Stevie Wonder's "Girl Blue". Lots of nice uptown arrangements by Bert DeCoteaux and Rene Hall, in that "transition from the 60s" style that was the group's real strength.  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Spinning Around
RCA, 1970. Very Good+
For some reason, RCA had a real penchant for repackaging and retitling a number of the albums cut by their big stars in the early 70's. This album's a repackaged version of the hard to find Tasteful Soul album, and it was released only a year or two after that one. It's got a different title and ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1971. Very Good+
A great album filled with hard breaks, tight choppy guitars, and a deep funky sound. This is one of the best early albums by the Nite Liters, and it's filled with great grooves like "Funky-Doo", "Stinkin Charlie", and "K-Jee" – but just about every track is a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Billy Jackson & The Citizen's Band

Billy Jackson & The Citizen's Band
RCA, 1976. Near Mint-
Kind of a retro-disco project – featuring new versions of older pop tunes like "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White", "Tenderly", "Old Devil Moon", and "Mister Sandman". Bernard Purdie is on drums, and both the TSOP and TSONY groups participate – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Odyssey

Happy Together
RCA, 1982. Near Mint-
A really nice step forward for Odyssey – a record that's a bit tighter and more electric than previous sets, but which also has a nice sort of depth as well! These guys manage to balance a love of the hook with all the right sort of touches to keep the cuts from ever being too poppy or ... LP, Vinyl record album

Delores Hall

Hall-Mark
RCA, 1973. Near Mint-
A great bit of 70s soul from Delores Hall – a singer we only know from this one album on RCA! The set's got a really great full-on sound – production by Billy Jackson, and some fully soulful arrangements by Wade Marcus – with a dope mix of strings and tight rhythms that make even ... Faith Hope & Charity

Life Goes On
RCA, 1976. Near Mint-
Life goes on for Faith, Hope, & Charity – and goes on pretty darn strongly, too – thanks to some wonderful work from the great Van McCoy, served up at a level that really goes beyond his stock sound of the time! The group's blend of one male and two female singers really works well ... LP, Vinyl record album

NYCC (New York Community Choir)

Make Every Day Count
Sunbar/RCA, 1978. Near Mint-
A really beautiful little album from NYCC – the name-shortened version of the New York Community Choir, stepping out here with a sound that's even better than their RCA debut! NYCC draw on a strong secular/spiritual tradition of work by The Art Reynolds Singers or Voices Of East Harlem ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ruffin & Kendrick

Ruffin & Kendrick
RCA, 1987. Near Mint-
A late 80s duo set from former Temptations David Ruffin & Eddie Kendricks! The Ruffin & Kendrick album for RCA (we didn't leave the -s off Eddie's last name, that's how he was billed at the time) finds both in excellent form vocally, and rather than making a neo-classic Motown vibe for the ... RCA, 1981. Near Mint-
A modern soul gem produced by Lenny White! Though White lends a touch of jazzy sophistication to the set, it's a straight up dose of mainstream modern soul, with great ensemble vocals and crisp production over tight songs that should have landed Wax at the top of the radio. Somehow though they ... LP, Vinyl record album

Michael Wycoff

Come To My World
RCA, 1980. Near Mint-
A perfect example of the kind of sophisticated groove he had right from the start of his legendary run on RCA – the kind of vibe that maybe kept Wycoff off the charts at the time, but which has made him a favorite on the underground scene for years! Keyboards play a big part in the sound ... LP, Vinyl record album
Curtom, Early 70s. Near Mint- Gatefold
Fantastic! The lost link in the Chicago soul scene of the 60s was Baby Huey – and he was a pretty darn big link too, if you've ever seen him in pictures! Weighing in at about 300 pounds, Baby Huey was sort of a rockin' soul star who played clubs on both sides of the city, to audiences of ... LP, Vinyl record album
