One of Cugie's more popular albums – and a record that has him re-recording older hits for the hi-fi generation. There's not that much hi and fi on the record, as the groove's pretty much in the older style – but the newer recordings were done in a stereo setting, which makes for a bit better sound than some of the originals. Titles include "Tico Tico", "Jalousie", "Dengoza", "Guitara Romana", "Miami Beach Rhumba", "Brazil", "Besame Mucho", and "Orchids In The Moonlight". (6 eye stereo pressing, with deep groove. Cover has some ring & edge wear.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mongo's Way
Atlantic, 1971. Very Good+
Sockin soul work from Mongo Santamaria – a real killer of an album, with a dope 70s sound! The album features Mongo hitting a nice blacksploitation mode – fuller arrangements than before, plus lots of electric touches on guitar, bass, and keyboards. Marty Sheller did most of the ... ABC, 1959. Very Good
One of the grooviest early albums recorded by Candido – done way before his later funky sides, and served up with plenty of unusual touches that set it apart from the usual 50s Latin set! Candi's very much in front of the arrangements on congas – hitting hard with a percussive fury ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mercury, Mid 60s. Sealed
One of THE killers of the Latin soul years – and a record that sometimes doesn't always get its due because it was issued on Mercury, not one of the New York indies! But don't let that association fool you, because this record's every bit as hard – if not harder than – any of the ... LP, Vinyl record album
