Candi

LP (Item 34930) Warner, 1974 — Condition: Very Good+

One of the best Candi Staton albums from the 70s – recorded for Warner Brothers, but with strong southern production by Rick Hall and the Fame Studios team. The group includes classic Muscle Shoals players like Spooner Oldham, Roger Hawkins, and Jimmy Johnson – and although the record's a bit slicker than earlier efforts, it's still got a much more honest soul sound than some of Candi's other 70s recordings. Lots of good songwriting, too – and titles include "Here I Am Again", "Clean Up America", "A Little Taste Of Love", "As Long As He Takes Care Of Home", "Six Nights & A Day", and "Can't Stop Being Your Fool".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear and a promo sticker.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

The second essential LP from the Time that would solidify Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis' position as a force to be dealt within commercial R&B for years to come, cut during the early 80s, when Minneapolis seemed like it was exploding at the seams with great music. Maria Muldaur

Maria Muldaur
Warner, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
A landmark record from Maria Muldaur – quite different than the rougher folsky work she cut in the 60s – and done with a really warm studio sound that's pure 70s all the way through! Warner, 1967. Very Good+
A weird little record from Bill Cosby – a set that's not as all-out funky as some of his other vocal albums, but still pretty nice overall! The style here is more bluesy than soul-based, but production is still by Fred Smith, of 103rd Street Rhythm Band fame – and the album has a sense ... LP, Vinyl record album

Funkadelic

Hardcore Jollies
Warner, 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of the sweetest Funkadelic albums from the middle period, and a good batch of tracks that often gets overlooked in the haze of similar Pedro Bell covers! A great collection of tracks by one of the most-overlooked female singers of the late 60s! The set is great, and the overall sound is a mix of smooth production with Lorraine's raw gospelly vocals – and tracks include "Stay With Me", "A Good Love", "Many Rivers To ... LP, Vinyl record album
Curtom, Early 70s. Near Mint- Gatefold
Fantastic! The lost link in the Chicago soul scene of the 60s was Baby Huey – and he was a pretty darn big link too, if you've ever seen him in pictures! Weighing in at about 300 pounds, Baby Huey was sort of a rockin' soul star who played clubs on both sides of the city, to audiences of ... LP, Vinyl record album
