Loose Change

LP (Item 34853) Casablanca, 1979 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

A near-lost Philly disco album – recorded at Sigma Sound, but released on Casablanca at the end of the 70s, and nearly buried under the weight of the label's collapse at the time! There's a style here that borrows bits from some of Casablanca's more mainstream artists – focusing strongly on the hooks of the tunes, and putting the female vocals upfront – but still swirling around in some mighty club arrangements from the Sigma team. Loose Change themselves are a trio in the Philly mode of First Choice or Three Degrees – and titles include "Rising Cost Of Love", "Straight From The Heart", "Darling, That's Me", "Babe", and "I Wanna Hold On To You". (Cover has a promo stamp.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Despite the title, and Harvey's silly costume on the front cover, this is more of a funky outing than a disco one – not really the hard funk of Harvey's early singles, but a good batch of funky soul tracks done in a full-on production mode. Harvey's on lead vocals on most tracks, but the ... LP, Vinyl record album

It's always a bit hard to peg Brooklyn Dreams' groove, but we're also always surprised at how much we like them in the end! This set's kind of a cross between late 70s club and soulful rock – almost as if Thin Lizzy had recorded for Casablanca, with a mix of rockish modes and clubbier sounds ... LP, Vinyl record album

A surprisingly great set from The Four Tops – hardly the throwaway effort you might expect from some of the other Casablanca projects of the time – and instead a really solid effort that follows strongly from the sound of the group's best moments during their ABC Records years! Groovy female club tracks – with George Clinton producing, and funky horn arrangements by Fred Wesley and the usual crew. A bit more uptempo than regular P-Funk material, but with some nice moments, nonetheless. Tracks include "Wolf Tickets", "I'm Mo Be Hittin' It", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Casablanca, 1980. Very Good
A classic bit of club from Lipps Inc – an album that's got the group nicely stretched-out and extended – taking them way past the simpler sounds you might know from their hit single work! An unusual group – but a nice little record! New York City Band are less of a group on their own, than a combo pulled together for this album – an ersatz soundtrack to the film Sunnyside, a disco-era production starring John Travolta's younger brother Joey!
