Resistindo Ao Vivo

LP (Item 34277) Philips (Brazil), 1977 — Condition: Very Good
Originally: 19.99
Wonderful stuff from the lovely Quarteto Em Cy – but aren't they always wonderful? The record's got a spare stripped-down instrumental style, and was recorded live with bossa backing – so that the girls' voices are right out front, free and clear, doing the main work of the songs. The harmonies are as heavenly as always, and tracks include "Samambaias", "Resistindo", "Canta, Canta Mais", "Funeral De Um Lavrador", and "Dorme, Meu Menino, Dorme".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has mild corner bends, edge wear, spot of pen.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

The lovely Quarteto Em Cy sing the work of Dorival Caymmi, Edu Lobo, and Antonio Carlos Jobim – plus additional contributions from junior members of their families! A very cool 70s album from Quarteto Em Cy – done with a sound that's quite different than their earlier work, but still pretty darn great! There's a compressed approach used to record the vocals here – a style that takes off from their 1972 album, but has a slightly more electrified ... LP, Vinyl record album

Vinicius & Toquinho (1974)
Philips (Brazil), 1974. Very Good- Gatefold
Classic bossa mixed with more ambitious touches for the 70s – easily one of the greatest records ever to come from the team of Vinicius and Toquinho! Philips (Brazil), 1979. Very Good
A great 70s album from this excellent Brazilian harmony group! Their sound is a different from that of Quarteto Em Cy or Tamba Trio, and their singing is less filled with straight jazzy harmonies than it is some off-kilter vocal lines that weave together and challenge each other throughout the ... Maria Bethania

Nossos Momentos
Philips (Brazil), 1982. Near Mint- Gatefold
A great little live set from Maria Bethania – one recorded with the lighter, looser sound she was using in the early 80s – and which stands as a nice contrast to her more dramatic concert performances of the 70s! The music director for the show is Gilberto Gil, and there's a bit of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of Chico's strongest albums of the late 70s – a masterful set of sophisticated tunes, recorded with some great guest help from Milton Nascimento, Zizi Possi, and Elba Ramalho! The album's got a slightly melancholy feel overall – not completely somber, but a slightly world-weary ... LP, Vinyl record album

Barclay/Philips (Brazil), 1984. Very Good+
An overlooked gem from Chico's mid 80s period – a record filled with strong and subtle songs, often backed by some nicely jazz-tinged arrangements from Cristovao Bastos! The album's not as revolutionary as some of Chico's earlier records, but it more than makes up for that with an incredibly ... LP, Vinyl record album
