❔

A great little groover from LTD – and a set that's got everything coming together perfectly in the mix! The set features arrangements from Philly Soul maestro Bobby Martin – who brings together this wonderful blend of styles – funk, smoother soul elements, and the kind of upbeat, clubby grooves that really worked well for the group – but at a level that also really set them apart from most of the disco generation. Jeffrey Osborne's vocals really shine on this one, too – and the record includes the cuts "Back In Love Again", "Stay With Me", "We Party Hearty", "Material Things", and "Age Of The Showdown".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has light wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Lani Hall

Sweet Bird
A&M, 1976. Near Mint-
Sweet grooving from Lani Hall – a record that's a long way from her roots in Brasil 66, but which has some surprisingly nice touches at times! Herb Alpert produced – and handled arrangements along with Lani and Michel Colombier – and it may well be Colombier's highly rhythmic ... LP, Vinyl record album

A&M, 1989. Very Good+
A crowning moment in New Jack Swing – or New Jill Swing, as it were – a perfect step forward for Janet Jackson, as she continues to work with the duo of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, with a vibe that was setting the scene for the rest of mainstream soul at the time! The album's got a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Tabu, 1978. Very Good
A tremendous little album from Brainstorm – funky and clubby at the same time – yet delivered with this righteous energy that few of their contemporaries could ever hope to match! There's a perfect melding of modes going on here that may well rival Earth Wind & Fire at their best ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sami Kamara & His Black Diamonds

Songs & Rhythms From Sierra Leone
Afro Request, Mid 60s. Very Good+
A very rootsy album of stripped down tracks by Sami Kamara and his Black Diamonds group. Sami plays guitar, sings, and handles the occasional kazoo solo – and the rest of the group play percussion and vocalize behind him. The sound's kind of like a rootsy version of highlife – with ... James Brown

Pure Dynamite!
King, 1964. Very Good Gatefold
Raw live energy from the great James Brown – and a record that comes hot on the heels of Live At The Apollo! Like that one, this set was supposedly "recorded on the spot" – and it's even harder, faster, and noisier than that classic – with a loud-bursting sound that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Funkadelic

Cosmic Slop
Westbound, 1973. Very Good- Gatefold
One of our favorite early Funkadelic albums – and a real turning point for the group! Gone are the trippier guitar solos of earlier days, and in their place is a tighter approach to funk – one that has the band grooving hard and soulfully on shorter tracks that perfect the dark vision ... Relating
Stax, 1973. Very Good-
A great return to basics for William Bell – and an album recorded with a warm, intimate quality that we really love! The vibe here is almost in the style of some of the growing Malaco work coming out of the Jackson scene – with a sound that's smooth, but somehow even more deeply ... LP, Vinyl record album

Roy Ayers & Wayne Henderson

Prime Time
Polydor, 1980. Very Good
A funky classic from the team of Roy Ayers and Wayne Henderson – both at the top of their game here, and effortlessly mixing together jazz, funk, and soul! The record really seems to embrace the best of both artists' styles – some of the bassy groovers that Wayne did so well himself, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Vee Jay, Early 60s. Very Good
Nice compilation of tracks that features some fine (and famous) moments from one of our favorite Chicago soul singers, recorded for the Vee Jay label, when they were one of the leading lights on music row.
