Hi Tension/Girl I Betcha

12-inch (Item 34020) Island, 1978 — Condition: Used

12-inch, Vinyl record

4.50 11

"Hi Tension" is a slightly afro-funky number, with a good rolling groove – and kind of a choppy dancefloor sound that takes off from some of the more produced Manu Dibango work of the same time. It's mostly instrumental, but has some vocals on the chorus. "Girl I Betcha" is a sweet soul number – moving at midtempo, with some nice flanging on the vocals, and some good compressed production.  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

One of the greatest moments of late Philly – and a dancefloor stormer that never lets us down! The cut's served up here in a stunning 10 minute version – with grooves that go on and on and on, driving the anthemic message of the cut over the top. "I Got The Love" isn't ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Dakar, 1981. Very Good
An 80s groove classic! This track has a killer sound that mixes bass-heavy funk with a tight electric keyboard sound – and it rips along nicely with a very catchy hook. The cut's one of our all-time favorites from this time, and it's got a hard funky groove that keeps on going! 12-inch, Vinyl record

HCRC, 1982. Very Good
One of William De Vaughan's greatest tracks – even if it was issued after his only 2 albums! The cut's got a sweet, warm, smooth steppers feel – gently gliding in a deeply soulful style that's every bit as great as William's more famous earlier work! 12-inch, Vinyl record

One of the three stellar singles off the now legendary first Organized LP. Two classic remixes, that maintain the sunny, jazzy groove of the originals, with added rhymes (like the sticker on the sleeve says "More than a remix: new music, new lyrics"), though that was hardly the norm back ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
