Soon Over Babaluma

LP (Item 33174) United Artists, 1974 — Condition: Very Good+
A mid 70s set from Can that's still very much in the best spirit of their earliest work – mostly longish tracks and all quite hypnotic – wonderful stuff from the team of Irmin Schmidt, Jacki Liebezeit, Holger Czukay, and Michael Karoli. Sure, Damo's not on vocals any more, but the instrumentation's still pretty darn great – and Can is also working more explicitly established global genre elements, but still really sounds like no one other than Can. Traces of reggae mix alongside many other rhythmic elements, jagged experimentalist touches, 70s ambient energy, and imaginative jams galore from one of the most creative combos of its time! Titles include "Chain Reaction", "Quantum Physics", "Dizzy Dizzy", and "Splash".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original US pressing in the foil cover, with a cut corner, light ring wear, cutout hole.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mute, 1975. Near Mint- 3LP Trifold
A great addition to the 70s catalog of the legendary Can – a set of live recordings made in Stuttgart in 1975, all of which have the group working in this wonderfully long-jamming style! Tracks are long, and maybe even more proggy than the group's studio work of the time – an all-instru ... LP, Vinyl record album

Traffic

Traffic
Island/United Artists, 1968. Very Good Gatefold
The second album from Traffic, and a set that forever cemented their legacy in the annals of modern music – a set that has Dave Mason returning to the group after a brief hiatus, and maybe helping the quartet find a tighter, rootsier sound overall! The approach here is nicely mixed – ... LP, Vinyl record album
United Artists/ORG, Early 70s. Near Mint-
The origins of space rock – served up here in an excellent collection of early work from Hawkwind! At the time of these sides, the group was unlike anyone else – not really prog or psych, but also not in the territory of all the later generations they'd inspire – truly an act who ... Deke Leonard

Iceberg
United Artists, 1974. Near Mint- Gatefold
An overlooked solo set from Deke Leonard – once a member of the group Man, out here on his own in a very unusual, very specific sort of style! The guitar work is every bit as sharp as Leonard's work with Man, but the music moves through a range of older influences and more personal moments ... LP, Vinyl record album

A legendary 3LP set – core work by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, with help from many others who make the record great – including Mother Maybele Carter, Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson, Merle Travis, Jimmy Martin, and Roy Acuff! Fearless
United Artists, 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of our favorite moments in the strong run of records from Family – a set that's still strongly defined by the vocals and songwriting of Roger Chapman, but which also has a lot more going on as well! White Light/White Heat
Verve, 1968. Near Mint-
One of the most far-out, freaked-out albums ever from the Velvet Underground – easily the most experimental set the group ever recorded!
