Minha Voz

LP (Item 33003) Polygram (Brazil), 1982 — Condition: Very Good+
Great stuff from Gal – even if the record is a lot smoother than her earlier work! The record's got a light jazzy style – like a lot of Gal's other work from the time – but this actually works quite well for her lovely voice, especially on the more intimate numbers. Titles include "Dom De Iludir", "Solar", "Musa Cabocla", "Minha Voz, Minha Vida", and a very silly track called "Groupie" that feature snippets from Tropicalia-era classics like "A Banda", "Realce", "A Banda", and "Domingo No Parque".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the insert. Cover has light edge wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Trova (Brazil), 1971. Very Good
Repackaged live album from Gal Costa (essentially record 1 of the original 2LP set) – one that's easily as great as any of her studio albums from the time! But unlike the studio albums, the style here is quite spare and intimate – a very personal presentation of Gal's music, recorded ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gal Costa

Personalidade
Philips (Brazil), 1970s/Early 1980s. Near Mint-
Gal's always been one of Brazil's greatest artists – whether she was singing strange raw tunes during her Tropicalia period, or moving into nice jazzy material during her later years. This set's a good introduction to her work, and it includes a lot of nice tracks that we don't always turn ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gal Costa

Profana
RCA (Brazil), 1984. Near Mint-
A warmly jazzy album from Gal Costa – much more so than you'd expect from her slightly creepy white face on the cover! There's a fair bit of keyboards in the instrumentation – usually stepping around with a relatively mellow feel, which lets Gal concentrate on ballads and gently ... LP, Vinyl record album

Aquarela Do Brasil
Philips (Brazil), 1980. Near Mint- Gatefold
Gal Costa pays tribute to one of the greatest Brazilian songwriters of an earlier age – the great Ary Barroso, one of the first to also get his songs translated into other global languages too! The language here is all Portuguese, though – but nicely updated by Gal in that range of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Yellow Racket, 2022. Sealed
Brazilian singer Momo might well be taking the title of this album seriously – as the whole thing's got a nicely stripped-down vibe that's somehow even more powerful than before – like those mid 70s moments when Cateano Veloso dropped out some of the instrumentation, and let all the ... Bad Donato
Blue Thumb, 1970. Sealed Gatefold
A wickedly funky album from Joao Donato – quite different than his earlier bossa sessions, and recorded in LA with a sweet jazzy bounce! Dramatic work from Brazilian singer Maysa – a set that's nicely balanced between two generations – the later, cooler modes of the bossa generation, and some of the more emotive styles that had come before! Maria Creuza

Voce Abusou
RGE (Brazil), 1971. Very Good
One of Maria Crueza's best recordings! It's one of her better albums of bossa nova work, given a bit of a 70's twist, and with the kind of percussive edge that you hear in some of Crueza's other albums. Mike Ribas arranged, and the album features guest performances by Sebastio Tapajos and Pedro ... LP, Vinyl record album

Oscar Castro-Neves & His Orchestra

Big Band Bossa Nova
Audio Fidelity, Early 60s. Very Good+
An excellent bossa session led by pianist Oscar Castro-Neves and his band, and recorded during the blitz of early bossa sessions by the Audio Fidelity label! The group's a large one, but not too large to lose the groove – and Castro-Neves put the whole thing together so that the album's ... LP, Vinyl record album
