Super Hits

LP (Item 32877) Tamla, 1960s — Condition: Sealed

Kind of an ultimate Marvin Gaye hits compilation – issued in 1970, with one of the most badass Motown covers of the time! The album's got a famous image of Gaye as a black Superman – flying high on the cover of a set that's filled with some of his best 60s work for Motown – and for some reason, there seems to be a few more cuts in the package than you might get in the usual hits collection of the time. Every title's a classic – and tunes include "Pride & Joy", "That's The Way Love Is", "Ain't That Peculiar", "Stubborn Kind Of Fellow", "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby", and "Hitch Hike".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(80s reissue pressing, still sealed with hype sticker! Cover has a cutout notch.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Dream Of A Lifetime
Columbia, 1985. Sealed
A great posthumous release from the mighty Marvin Gaye – a set that's half comprised of material that Marvin was working on before his early death, and half pulled from rare personal recordings he'd entrusted to his mother! The cover carries a message that some of the material might be " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvin's definitely in the groove on this set – cooking on all burners with a host of late 60s Motown hits – bad-stepping his way towards some of the more mature moments to come in the 70s! Motown, 1960s/1970s. Near Mint-
In our humble opinion, just about every track that Marvin recorded for Motown is "great" – but since this set's focused on the hits, we're happy to accept their track selection, and admit they do a pretty good job of covering most of the big bases – early solo gems, duet ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvin Gaye

Midnight Love
Columbia, 1982. Very Good+
Marvin Gaye's last album ever – and a sensuous batch of grooves that almost return him to the sound of Let's Get It On! The style here is a bit more modern, but the sound is still great – a smoother approach to soul than most of Gaye's contemporaries at the time, recorded in a way that ... LP, Vinyl record album

An amazing record that stunned the world almost as much as Marvin's previous effort, What's Going On. Wonderful stuff – and one of our favorite-ever Marvin Gaye albums! For Once In My Life
Tamla, 1968. Near Mint-
The title tune on this one should be enough – as it was a key track in the transformation of Stevie Wonder from a younger novelty act at Motown to the adult powerhouse that would take the world by storm in the 70s! The album's got a soaring, almost righteous quality that grabs you from the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston

Take Two
Tamla, 1966. Very Good
Beautiful work from Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston – done in a style that's perhaps a bit more intimate, and a bit more sophisticated than some of Marvin's other duets, but still in the great Motown tradition of the 60s! On the set, Weston seems to bring out the sweeter sound of Marvin's voice ... LP, Vinyl record album
