Dinah Washington — For Those In Love (with bonus tracks) ... CD 4.99

Excellent small group jazz work from Dinah – of the sort that's often quite tough to find on vinyl, and which represents some of her best work of all time! The album's got a good group of Mercury jazz players – like Clark Terry, Paul Quinichette, Cecil Payne, Wynton Kelly, and Jimmy Cobb – all playing in a laidback intimate setting which works very nicely for Dinah's soulful vocals. Titles include "Blue Gardenia", "You Don't Know What Love Is", "I Could Write A Book", and "Easy Living". A bit Billie Holiday-ish, sure – but nice!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Blue label drummer logo pressing with deep groove. Cover has a split bottom seam, discoloration from age, and some staining.)

Good

  • A record that you'd buy to play, cheap, but which you wouldn't buy for collecting.
  • Will have marks across all parts of the playing surface, and will most likely play with surface noise throughout. May have some other significant flaws, such as residue, or a track that skips.
  • In most cases, a poor quality copy of a very difficult to find record.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Back To The Blues
Roulette, 1962. Near Mint-
A bit different than some of Dinah Washington's other 60s work for Roulette – a set that's not entirely back to the blues promised in the title, but one that's definitely got a strong bluesy undercurrent! Swingin Miss D
EmArcy, Late 50s. Sealed
Swingin is right – as Dinah lets go with Quincy Jones orchestra, singing strong and hard in a set that's one of her best jazz sides from the 50s! Roulette, Early 60s. Very Good+
The tribute here is to Dinah Washington herself – who left the planet all too soon, after passing away at an early age in 1963.
