Dionne Warwicke Story – A Decade Of Gold

LP (Item 31849) Scepter, Early 70s — Condition: Very Good
2LP Gatefold

Although this one looks like a greatest hits set, it's actually a live show that features Dionne running through most of her big Bacharach hits during the Scepter years. The set features impersonations by Dionne on tracks like "Baby Love", "Bill Bailey", and "Falling In Love Again" – plus straight versions of many old hits, including "House Is Not A Home", "Alfie", "Don't Make Me Over", "The Look Of Love", "Reach Out For Me", and "Wives & Lovers".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Hot Live & Otherwise
Arista, 1981. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Great early 80s work from Dionne Warwick – mostly recorded live, with a slightly looser feel than some of her studio sets of the time! The double-length set features three sides live, and an additional set of studio material – and the live tracks are possibly the greatest in the bunch ... LP, Vinyl record album

Heartbreaker
Arista, 1983. Sealed
Sweet 80s soul from Dionne Warwick – an album that features a fair bit of production work from Barry Gibb – and a sometime sound that definitely shows his presence! There It Is
Polydor, 1972. Very Good+
Raw power and righteous energy from James Brown – a set that still has all the best funk elements of his longer-form albums of the time, but which also packs an even stronger political message too! Grits & Soul
Smash, 1964. Very Good+
One of the grooviest of the James Brown instrumental albums recorded for Smash. Unlike some of the other weaker albums on Smash, this one's got a great batch of material, most of which are originals, and not weak covers of pop tunes. Plus, the tracks are longer than usual, which gives the band a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hot Buttered Soul/ABC, 1976. Very Good+ Gatefold
After leaving Stax, Ike seemed to be trying to turn himself into more of a Barry White-style artist – with more emphasis on original tracks about love and loving, instead of his older method of transforming pop hits into little baroque symphonies. On a record like this, the approach meant ... LP, Vinyl record album

Warner, 1975. Very Good+
The groove's getting a bit smoother than on some of the group's early funk classics, but T of P still come across quite well on the set – working in their trademark blend of jazz, funk, and soul.
