Dionne Warwicke Story – A Decade Of Gold

LP (Item 31849) Scepter, Early 70s — Condition: Very Good
2LP Gatefold

Although this one looks like a greatest hits set, it's actually a live show that features Dionne running through most of her big Bacharach hits during the Scepter years. The set features impersonations by Dionne on tracks like "Baby Love", "Bill Bailey", and "Falling In Love Again" – plus straight versions of many old hits, including "House Is Not A Home", "Alfie", "Don't Make Me Over", "The Look Of Love", "Reach Out For Me", and "Wives & Lovers".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Arista (UK), 1983. Near Mint-
Dionne Warwick steps out strongly with some great production help from Luther Vandross – who gives the lady a groove that's possibly even tighter than on her other Arista albums, really shaking off some of her more familiar modes, and going for a powerful 80s sound. There's still some good ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dionne Warwick

Burt Bacharach Songbook
Scepter/Teichiku (Japan), Late 60s. Near Mint- Gatefold
A very cool Japanese-only album – all featuring Burt Bacharach/Dionne Warwick collaborations from the 60s Scepter Records years – in a very unique gatefold cover! Titles include "This Girl's In Love With You", "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "Trains & ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dionne Warwick

Hot Live & Otherwise
Arista, 1981. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Great early 80s work from Dionne Warwick – mostly recorded live, with a slightly looser feel than some of her studio sets of the time! The double-length set features three sides live, and an additional set of studio material – and the live tracks are possibly the greatest in the bunch ... LP, Vinyl record album
Scepter, 1960. Very Good
The first album in The Shirelles mighty run for Scepter Records – and a great set that really set new standards for girl soul in the 60s! Although some of the cuts crossed over bit, the whole album's got a heartbreaking sense of soul that goes way beyond familiar oldies – a beautiful ... LP, Vinyl record album
Scepter, Mid 60s. Very Good
A nice collection of tracks from this classic girl group, and one that has some nice lesser-known cuts mixed in with the chart busters. 15 tracks in all, including "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", "Stop The Music", "Dedicated To The One I Love", "Everybody Loves A ... LP, Vinyl record album

Not really a "best of" – but a repackaging of the album Good Guys Only Win in the Movies, a fantastic harmony soul LP with great Chicago soul production by Gene Chandler, and singing from Mel & Tim that will blow your mind! Tyrone Davis

In The Mood
Columbia, 1979. Very Good
Our favorite album ever from Tyrone Davis – even if it's completely different than most of his other work too! The set's got a wonderfully smooth feel right from the start – a mellow-grooving, slow-stepping approach that works perfectly for Tyrone's wonderful vocals – pushing ... LP, Vinyl record album
United Artists, 1974. Very Good+
A stone classic from Bobby Womack – one of those records that has all his best elements firmly in place, put forward at a level that's sophisticated and polished, yet never too commercial at all! Bobby's voices are still incredible – that raspy, personal feel that's rooted in country ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gil Scott-Heron

Reflections
Arista, 1981. Very Good-
A great little album that's often overshadowed by its hit – the 15 minute "B-Movie", which was sort of an overly-wrought protest piece about how the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980 was going to turn America into a bad b-movie. Not that that track's bad – although its ... LP, Vinyl record album
Curtom, 1969. Very Good Gatefold
Quite possibly our favorite-ever album by the Impressions! The record is a key transitional one – and it has them opening up the politics that were often hidden by spiritual metaphors on earlier ABC albums, into a righteous soul groove that hints a lot at the overblown direction Curtis ... Cymande
Janus, 1972. Very Good Gatefold
The fantastic first album by one of the most unique funk groups of all time! A key part of the crumbling British colonial network that produced some excellent music in the postwar years, Cymande was comprised mostly of West Indians who'd emigrated to England in the 60s, eventually meeting up ... Atlantic, 1968. Very Good-
Heavenly soul from the lovely Sweet Inspirations! The record was the group's first secular album for Atlantic – after recording one gospel album, and doing the backings on a number of fine Aretha Franklin sessions – and it's a gem of a female soul record, with the same classic sound ...
