❔
Sweet sounds from the lovely lady – one of Patrice Rushen's last truly great albums, and a masterpiece of 80s groove with lots of jazzy touches! The keyboard sound has evolved a bit here – compressed with more electronic percussion than on Patrice's earlier records, but still done with a degree of soul that sets it apart from work by most of her contemporaries – and the music has this warm flow that really sets Rushen apart from the rest – a sublime mix of soul, funk, and fusion that holds together perfectly throughout! Titles include "Gotta Find It", "Gone With The Night", "My Love's Not Going Anywhere", "High In Me", "To Each His Own", "Heartache Heartbreak", and "Feels So Real".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has staining & waviness on the bottom 4 inches and a cutout hole.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Polydor, 1971. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
An amazing double-live album that's to concert records what James Brown's Payback was to the sound of studio funk! Like that classic, this is a double-length 2LP set that really has James and the JBs stretching out and doing their thing – working here in a setting that's supposed to be the ... Mary Wells

Vintage Stock
Motown, 1966. Very Good-
A very strong compilation of some of the best soul that Mary Wells recorded for Motown – and probably her only real album for the label. Although issued in 1966, the material hearkens from earlier days at Motown – and titles include "The One Who Really Loves You", "Two ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvin Gaye

I Want You
Tamla, 1976. Very Good+
An incredible record – quite possibly our favorite ever by Marvin Gaye! The album is quite unique – written by Leon Ware, and recorded in collaboration with him – done as a "suite" of tracks based on themes of passion, joy, and new love – all of which were very ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gil Scott-Heron

Reflections
Arista, 1981. Very Good-
A great little album that's often overshadowed by its hit – the 15 minute "B-Movie", which was sort of an overly-wrought protest piece about how the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980 was going to turn America into a bad b-movie. Not that that track's bad – although its ... LP, Vinyl record album

Patti Drew

Wild Is Love
Capitol, 1969. Sealed
A fantastic later album from Patti Drew – recorded after her early hits, both as a solo act and with the Drew-Vels in the 60s – and done in a much more mature, sophisticated style overall! Richard Evans did the arrangements – and carries over some of his best Chess/Cadet talents ... LP, Vinyl record album

Isley Brothers

3 + 3
T Neck, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
An amazing little album from the Isley Brothers – one in which the group manage to explore their growing love of the electric guitar, yet somehow sound even more soulful than before! The music is slinky and seductive, with a wonderful style that's never too overly funky – just laidback ... LP, Vinyl record album

Osibisa

Superfly TNT
Buddah, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
Some nice heavy Afro-funk grooves, courtesy of Osibisa, for this follow-up score to the original Superfly! The sound of the music is quite different than Curtis Mayfield's famous soundtrack – and there's lots of heavy bass and percussion, plus some additional arrangements by Michael Gibbs. ... Warner, 1978. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of the crowning moments of genius from the great George Clinton – a record that has Funkadelic really finding their groove, in the same way that Parliament were helping push underground funk into both the clubs and the mainstream – while also showing that the P-Funk empire can jam ... United Artists, 1975. Very Good+
A huge moment for War – maybe the group's biggest album of the 70s, but a set that still has them holding onto everything that makes the great! Like Earth Wind & Fire at their best, War have this way of staying strong and righteous, while still able to hit a hook – jamming one ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvin Gaye

Anthology
Motown, 1960s/Early 70s. Very Good+ 3LP Gatefold
Killer 3LP set that brings together just about every single track you'd ever want from Marvin's early years at Motown! Night Dreamer
Blue Note, 1964. Near Mint-

Herbie Hancock

Maiden Voyage
Blue Note, 1965. Near Mint-
A brilliant album – and real turning point for Herbie Hancock! After first coming onto the scene as the soul jazz hero between Blue Note funky classics like "Watermelon Man" or "Blind Man, Blind Man" – Herbie emerges here as a concerned modernist with a strand of ... LP, Vinyl record album
