One of the all-time great jazzy soul tunes! Gene Dunlap cut this little gem with backing vocals by The Ridgeways for his 1981 album It's Just The Way I Feel – but the tune has outlasted the album for years, and is a big favorite with steppers even into this century. It's backed by the lesser cut "Rock Radio", which shows Gene's ill-chosen funky style. (Promo.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sure, the politics seem a bit silly now – but the track's still one of Prince's last really compelling hits. It's got a totally infectious hook, a spare Timmy Thomas-ish beat, and a strangely captivating vocal that really sticks with us! "On The Beat" is one of the greatest dancefloor tracks from the 80s – a solid sender with a blend of funk and disco, made even better with a great hook, and a classic sound that never gets old! The cut's a crossover classic from years back, and you get it here in two versions! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Frankie goes for the charts, but still with a very nice groove – and a deep bubbling under kind of sound that stays true to his Chicago roots! Still wish he would have used a real whistle, though! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Kashif penned this catchy little tune for Evelyn Champagne King – really helping her find her groove in the 80s with a sweet flurry of electric beats, keyboard parts, and plenty of bass!
