Used Vinyl Grades
Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for
the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-")
the grading for the vinyl.
If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws,
these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that
since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with
the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, all of our records
are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible
for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt
to listen through them and note how they play.
The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Hats off to Hugh Masekela – one of the few artists who could record for the Casablanca label and never manage to lose his own sense of sound and spirit! The album's a surprisingly great one, filled with the kinds of subtle touches and earthy soul we've always loved in Hugh's music – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Early work by Hugh Masekela – recorded way before his big hits of the late 60s! The format is different than those recordings, too – with Hugh soloing on trumpet, over larger arrangements by Hugo Montenegro that have sort of a stock African soundtrack-y quality to them. The jazz ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great little set of Hugh's MGM recordings – and one that features a nice mix of pop instrumental tracks, and others that have a more sophisticated African Soul sound. Included in this bunch are "Bajabula Bonke (Healing Song) parts 1 & 2", "U-Dwi", "Masquenada ... LP, Vinyl record album
The title tells it all – as Ravi delivers three long ragas, with backing on tabla and tamboura. A nice one to plug in and drop out to – with the 28 minute-long "Raga Jog", plus "Raga Simhendra Madhyaman" and "Raga Ahir Bhairav". LP, Vinyl record album
Afro-psychedelia from Chrissy Zebby Tembo – a set recorded in the Zambian scene of the early 70s, and served up in a blend of fuzzy guitar, funky drums, and some really unusual vocals! At times, Chrissy's voice almost sounds like it's being processed – filtered down nicely amidst the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Beautiful balafon work from SK Kakraba – music with its roots in Ghana, but recorded in California – in an interesting criss-crossing of styles! The wooden xylophone seems to be the main instrument on most of these tracks – but often played in a variety of ways that show a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Later work from the combo also known as Lafayette Afro Rock Band and Ice – but still pretty darn nice – and served up in a style that has more straight Afro-Funk grooving than you'd expect! There's a nicely tight small combo feel to the whole thing – more African than before, ... LP, Vinyl record album
A classic series of field recordings – done for Nonesuch by Stephen Jay, and recorded in Niger, Mali, & Upper Volta. Titles include "Kountougi Solo", "Djerma Dundun Drummers", "Tuareg Medicinal Chant", "Kouco Solo", "Songhay Kombi & ... LP, Vinyl record album
Early international recordings made by these two masters of Indian music. The first half features 50s sides by Ali Akbar Khan – oddly narrated with an introduction on each number by Yehudi Menuhin, then giving way to a much longer instrumental passage that features Khan's amazing work on ...
