We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Original Stylin'
Hilltop/Arista, 1989. Near Mint-
Proof that Philly was well represented even in the early days of hip hop. 3XD are still part of the Hilltop Hustler's crew on this first album, and have the same sort of stripped down approach that you might expect from Steady B during the same period. Featuring KRS One's first appearence on wax: "Success Is The Word" produced by Kenny Beck. World One, 1989. Sealed
Nice hyped beats meets knowledge-style rhymes circa late 80s. Plus, all the songs were composed using the "Compu-Beat-Syntronic" process. Mystro does a nice job on the 1's and 2's. 10 tracks in all: "Mystro On The Flex", "Mystro On The Flex (dog mix)", "Trapped ... LP, Vinyl record album

Booker T Set
Stax, 1969. Very Good
Later work from Booker T and crew – an album that always gets lost in the shuffle, but which also includes lots of great moments, and a bit more funk than in earlier years! The rhythm section's loosening up a bit on the set – led by the mighty Al Jackson, and working past that tight ... LP, Vinyl record album

Avco, 1971. Very Good-
A masterpiece of harmony soul – one of THE all-time greats of the genre, and a lasting treasure from The Stylistics! The album really took vocal soul to a whole new level for the 70s – pushing from the sometimes fragile ballad style of the late 60s into a smoother, more mature sound ... LP, Vinyl record album

Show & Tell
Cotillion, 1982. Very Good
A great set from a group who should have been huge – a surprisingly well put-together vocal trio, featuring lead vocals from Limon Wilson, and great harmonies from Derrell Jackson and Joe Williams! There's a definite groove on most numbers, but it's usually quite far from the stiffer sounds ... LP, Vinyl record album
