Fantasia

LP (Item 31236) Philips (Brazil), 1981 — Condition: Near Mint-
Gal's in the prime of her sexy diva style here – singing in a sweet warm style with smooth jazzy arrangements that bring out a whole new side of her career. Obviously, the album's not as groundbreaking as some of her early work – but the quality is very high, and Gal's voice is always wonderful, no matter what the setting. Arrangements are by Gilson Peranzzetta and Lincoln Olivetti – and titles include "Meu Bem, Meu Mal", "Canta Brasil", "Roda Baiana", "Festa Do Interior", "Massa Real", and "Estrela, Estrela".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the insert. Cover has light wear, lightly bent edges, and a small sticker in back.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Gal's always been one of Brazil's greatest artists – whether she was singing strange raw tunes during her Tropicalia period, or moving into nice jazzy material during her later years. Bem Bom
RCA (Brazil), 1985. Near Mint- Gatefold
Completely charming work from Gal Costa – lush backgrounds, jazzy keyboards, and lots of other elements you might not have expected in her music a dozen years before – but all handled by Gal with the kind of care and class that have made her one of the greatest Brazilian singers of the ... Gal Tropical
Philips (Brazil), 1979. Very Good- Gatefold
Light and lively work from the great Gal Costa – a set that's light years away from her Tropicalia experiments of a decade before, but which is equally beautiful in its own sort of way! First off, Gal's vocals are amazing – more expressive and dynamic than in the early days – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gal Costa

Aquarela Do Brasil
Philips (Brazil), 1980. Very Good+ Gatefold
Gal Costa pays tribute to one of the greatest Brazilian songwriters of an earlier age – the great Ary Barroso, one of the first to also get his songs translated into other global languages too! The language here is all Portuguese, though – but nicely updated by Gal in that range of ... LP, Vinyl record album

As 10 Cancoes Medalha De Ouro
Mit/Philips (Brazil), 1972. Very Good+
A cool record that features some excellent work from Erlon Chaves! Philips (Brazil), 1987. Very Good-
A great one from Nara Leao's "back to bossa" years in the late 80s – a set that has the lovely vocalist working through older American standards – but done here with new lyrics in Portuguese and some great bossa backings from Roberto Menescal! Ciclo
Philips (Brazil), 1983. Very Good
A nicely rootsy little album from Maria Bethania – recorded during a period when some of her music could often sound much fuller and more electric! Philips (Brazil), 1974. Very Good+ Gatefold
An incredible album – and a landmark session that showed that the bossa nova was still alive and well in the 1970s! Philips (Brazil), 1968. Very Good-
Very very cool compilation of tracks that seem to be designed as an "export", even though the record was produced by Philips in Brazil.
