MPB4 Interpreta Chico Buarque

LP (Item 31232) Barclay (Brazil), 1985 — Condition: Near Mint-
The title says it all – as this excellent Brazilian vocal quartet runs through the work of the great Chico Buarque. Chico's compositions are always known for their warm imagination, and the tricks and turns in the songs works perfectly with the group's off-kilter style. Titles include "Roda Viva", "Sabia", "Ole, Ola", "Calice", "Partido Alto", and "Quem Te Viu, Quem Te Ve".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Milton Nascimento

Encontros E Despedidas
Barclay (Brazil), 1985. Very Good+
A nicely understated 80s set from Milton Nascimento – a record that still has that heavenly, soaring sensibility in his vocals – but which maybe also has some of the intimacy you might expect from the cover's image of Milton walking alone in a forest! There's some jazzy currents in the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Elis Regina & Antonio Carlos Jobim

Elis & Tom
Philips (Brazil), 1974. Near Mint- Gatefold
An incredible album – and a landmark session that showed that the bossa nova was still alive and well in the 1970s! The album pairs the breathy jazz vocals of Elis Regina with the booze-soaked warmth of Antonio Carlos Jobim – in a set of spare arrangements that feature a lot of touches ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gal Costa

Fantasia
Philips (Brazil), 1981. Near Mint-
Gal's in the prime of her sexy diva style here – singing in a sweet warm style with smooth jazzy arrangements that bring out a whole new side of her career. Obviously, the album's not as groundbreaking as some of her early work – but the quality is very high, and Gal's voice is always ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pery Ribeiro & Luiz Eca

Pra Tanto Viver
Continental (Brazil), 1986. Very Good+
A warm intimate session of jazz vocals by singer Pery Ribeiro – who get some extremely sensitive backing here from pianist Luiz Eca, probably best known to folks as the leader of the Tamba Trio. The sound is spare and clean, and Ribeiro delivers some of his best vocal performances in years. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Carmen Miranda

South American Way
MCA (UK), 1940s. Near Mint-
(80s pressing. Cover is bent a bit at the edges, with some streaky print blemishes at the opening.) LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia (Brazil), Late 70s/Early 80s. Very Good+
(Cover has some ring and edge wear, small sticker remnants at the top right, clear tape at the corners, and is bent a bit at the edges and corners.) LP, Vinyl record album
Pointer (Brazil), 1984. Near Mint-
A nice batch of jazzy tracks by this under-recognized Brazilian singer – recorded for the Pointer label, with the kind of strong fusion backing that was the stock in trade of the label at the time. Filo's vocals are great, and very soulful – and he also plays a good deal of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Norma Benguell

Norma Canta Mulheres
Elenco (Brazil), 1977. Very Good
Obscure later work from Norma Benguell, better known for her classic 60s album on Odeon – a set that's late in the Elenco label, and which features guest work from Sivuca, Rosinha De Valenca, Celia Vaz, and others! LP, Vinyl record album
Philips (Brazil), 1970s/1980s. Near Mint-
A collection of compositions by Dorival Caymmi – performed by Gal Costa, Maria Bethania, Chico Buarque, Tom Jobim & Dorival Caymmi, Elis Regina, Caetano Veloso, Sylvia Telles, Tamba Trio, Nana Caymmi, Zizi Possi, Fafa De Belem, Dorival Caymmi & Quarteto Em Cy, and Joao Gilberto with ... LP, Vinyl record album
Epic, 1966. Near Mint-
One of the better early bossa albums by Bonfa, and one that doesn't have the sleepy quality that you find on some of his other records. Luiz' guitar is backed by a nice little combo, and the tracks have a lively rhythm, with occasional vocals, and some nice flute solos from time to time. The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Isaac Hayes

Black Moses
Enterprise, 1971. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
Baroquely beautiful work from the Stax soul master – one of Isaac Hayes' heaviest albums of the 70s – and a record so massive, they needed 2LPs to contain the whole thing! The record's a culmination of the rich, full style of soulful arranging that Hayes had pioneered in his early solo ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvin Gaye

I Want You
Tamla, 1976. Very Good
An incredible record – quite possibly our favorite ever by Marvin Gaye! The album is quite unique – written by Leon Ware, and recorded in collaboration with him – done as a "suite" of tracks based on themes of passion, joy, and new love – all of which were very ... LP, Vinyl record album
