MPB4 Interpreta Chico Buarque

LP (Item 31232) Barclay (Brazil), 1985 — Condition: Near Mint-
The title says it all – as this excellent Brazilian vocal quartet runs through the work of the great Chico Buarque. Chico's compositions are always known for their warm imagination, and the tricks and turns in the songs works perfectly with the group's off-kilter style. Titles include "Roda Viva", "Sabia", "Ole, Ola", "Calice", "Partido Alto", and "Quem Te Viu, Quem Te Ve".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Roberto Menescal

Bossa Nova
Imperial (Brazil), 1964. Very Good
Early bossa album by the man who was one of the leading instrumentalists behind many of the bossa era's best singers. The set's fairly mellow, and all instrumental. Menescal plays guitar, and other instrumentation includes vibes & piano. The tracks have a light lilting bossa feel, with some ... LP, Vinyl record album

A beautiful early showcase of the compositions of Antonio Carlos Jobim – and one of the best late 50s albums from the lovely Sylvia Telles! The album's got a wonderfully gentle feel – one that's a far cry from some of the more emotive female vocal work that had come from Brazil in the ... LP, Vinyl record album

The cover definitely reflects that 80s origin of the album – but as usual with Djavan, there's a lot more depth here going on than most of his contemporaries ever had to offer! The singer's less a Brazilian artist than a global soul star – singing in Portuguese, but with a quality that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Avanco
Philips (Brazil), Mid 60s. Good
A seminal set from one of the greatest bossa combos ever – a group who could boast sharp instrumentation and warm vocal harmonies too! Paulo Diniz (1973)
Odeon (Brazil), 1973. Very Good+
Sweetly tripping samba work from Paulo Diniz – and a record that has his wonderful vocals set up with all sorts of groovy touches in the arrangements – thanks to maestro Nelsinho! Gao & The Ipanema Strings

Melodic Sound Of Gao's Piano
London (Brazil), 1966. Very Good+
A mid-60s set from Brazil, and one that's got arrangements that are maybe a bit more lush than some of the other work of the time – such as records on the Elenco label – yet a set that also still leaves plenty of room out front for the piano of Gao! Titles include "Cabeludo", ... LP, Vinyl record album
Riverside, 1960. Sealed
They're not kidding with the title of this one – because although the record was only Wes Montgomery's second album as a leader, he was already making plenty of waves with the sound of his guitar!
