To Seek A New Home

LP (Item 3114) Blue Note, 1970 — Condition: Good
Gatefold
A great little album that has McDuff soloing on Hammond, over larger funkier arrangements – very much in the manner of his sublime Moon Rapping set, also recorded for Blue Note. Arrangements are by JJ Jackson and Jerry Long – and McDuff will blow your mind as he navigates the mix of time changes, theme changes, and rhythm changes over the course of the long tracks on the set. Includes the sublime sample cut "Hunk O Funk", plus "Mystic John", "Seven Keys For Seven Doors", and "Yellow Wednesday".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Good

  • A record that you'd buy to play, cheap, but which you wouldn't buy for collecting.
  • Will have marks across all parts of the playing surface, and will most likely play with surface noise throughout. May have some other significant flaws, such as residue, or a track that skips.
  • In most cases, a poor quality copy of a very difficult to find record.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Jack McDuff

Screamin'
Prestige, 1962. Very Good+
A real killer from Brother Jack McDuff – one of his first truly great albums, and a record that has him breaking from the sleepier R&B organ sound of the 50s – into the leaner, cleaner mode of the 60s! The album's one of the first to have him playing with the incredible drummer Joe ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jack McDuff

Honeydripper
Prestige, 1961. Very Good+
One of the records that put a young Brother Jack McDuff on the map – and a perfect example of the rougher R&B roots that first emerged in his early work on the Hammond! The session's got a much more down-n-dirty feel than some of McDuff's tighter 60s quartet work – and offers a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wayne Shorter

All Seeing Eye
Blue Note, 1965. Sealed
One of the more avant-oriented 60s sessions cut by Wayne Shorter for Blue Note – a record that's not entirely part of the "new thing" generation, but which definitely has Shorter pushing the boundaries from his previous records for the label! The lineup here is a key batch of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Three Sounds

Feelin' Good
Blue Note, Early 60s. Very Good
With a sound like this, these guys have gotta be Feelin Good! Somethin' Else
Blue Note, 1958. Very Good

Tony Williams

Foreign Intrigue
Blue Note, 1985. Near Mint-
An intriguing little set from drummer Tony Williams – and a set that shows him still very much in command of his talents well into the 80s! Tony's playing here with all the bold, open energy of his classic recordings – and although he picks up a bit of electric percussion at points, he ... LP, Vinyl record album

Some of the best early work by Prez – all recorded in small combo sessions for Aladdin Records during the years 1945 through 1948. Right Touch
Blue Note, 1967. Sealed
One of the hippest sets that Duke Pearson ever recorded – and an all-out Blue Note soul jazz set that's even better than Pearson's classic Sweet Honey Bee!
