LP, Vinyl record album

❔

Possibly the grooviest of many groovy albums that the Singers Unlimited cut for MPS – largely because of some great arrangements by Pat Williams! Pat gives the group a nice little zip – with some large jazzy arrangements that aren't too goofy, and which work well with their perfect harmony vocal style. Production is sublime too – airy, but never sleepy – and the record has an incredible sound that's hardly ever been duplicated again in the studio! The album features the Singers doing some great standards and covers – like "On A Clear Day", "Skylark", "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life", and "Green Dolphin Street" – as well as the nice original "Feeling Free With Patrick B".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A really great later album from Anita – one recorded live in Berlin, with some backing by the George Arvanitas trio – at the time when they had the kick-ass rhythm section of Jacky Samson on bass and Charles Saudrais on drums. MPS/Prestige, 1969. Very Good+
Very cool, very groovy, and one of Ella Fitzgerald's hippest albums of the 60s! MPS, 1973. Near Mint-
One of the coolest albums ever cut by the Singers Unlimited – thanks to great instrumentation from the mighty Art Van Damme! A set that features lots of great arrangements from Shorty Rogers – upbeat and jazzy, in ways that aren't exactly the Latin modes promised by the title, but still pretty darn great! Sings The Blues
RCA, 1967. Very Good
Nina's not just singing the blues here – she's completely reinventing the sound of the format – by drawing on a long tradition of vocal expression, and infusing it with the hipper, more personally exploratory mode she forged in the 60s! Sing The Best Of Irving Berlin
EmArcy, 1957. Very Good
A great album that pairs these two great singers together for some of Berlin's popular tunes. Reprise, Early 60s. Very Good-
One of the grooviest albums ever made by this great jazz vocal group – and a record that's darn impossible to find on wax! Frank's last solid album for Capitol, and an easily swinging set that points the way towards the confident maturity of the Reprise years.
