Chapter Two – Hasta Siempre

LP (Item 30066) Impulse, 1973 — Condition: Very Good+
Gatefold
Chapter 2 of Gato's Latin American trilogy – and like the first, a set of tracks that features Gato's firey sax work engaging a complex series of Latin rhythms. Some of the tracks on the record feature Brazilian influences – from players like Helio Delmiro and Novelli – and one other track was recorded in Buenos Aires, like the tunes on the first LP. The sound is soulful and spiritual throughout – and the presence of the additional players really opens up Gato's style. Titles include "Para Nosotros", "Encontros", "Latino America", and "Marissea".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Black label stereo/quad pressing.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Gato Barbieri

Ruby Ruby
A&M, 1977. Very Good+
A great date from saxophonist Gato Barbieri – a record that's a bit mellower and more electric than some of his previous 70s efforts, but which is still plenty darn great! Gato's tenor has a tone that's undeniably great – a slightly raspy sort of edge that sounds warmly human and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gato Barbieri

Tropico
A&M, 1978. Very Good
A far reaching late 70s set from Gato Barbieri – a record that blends fusiony jazz funk, lush stings, and Latin rhythms and fluid solos on a varied batch of tunes! One of the more interesting things about the production is that those varied approaches often come into play within the same ... LP, Vinyl record album
Impulse, 1975. Near Mint-

Impulse, 1973. Near Mint- Gatefold
We love this record! Quite possibly the best-remembered album from Pharoah Sanders' legendary run at Impulse Records – a set that crossed over big, and sold to countless folks who might not have bought a jazz album this hip otherwise! The record was Sanders' first in the wake of Coltrane's passing – and it' ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tell It The Way It Is!
Impulse, 1963. Very Good Gatefold
Paul Gonsalves tells it the way it is – but in a hiply swinging sort of way that showcases his rising star as a leader in the 60s! Waterfalls
Impulse, 1972. Very Good+ Gatefold
A wonderful classic from John Klemmer – one of those artists we've under-appreciated for years, but grow to love more and more as time goes by! Impressions
Impulse, 1963. Very Good+ Gatefold
Brilliant work – John Coltrane really opening up in his new spiritual mode of the 60s, hinting at the changes to come, while still keeping the modal groove of previous recordings! Impulse, 1963. Very Good+ Gatefold
Soaring and soulful work from the legendary John Coltrane – a tremendous live set that's one of his best early 60s albums! John Coltrane

Ballads
Impulse, 1962. Near Mint-
A perennial favorite in the John Coltrane catalog – a beautiful set of standards, handled in a warm laidback style – but which still has some of the depth of soul that John Coltrane brought to his more experimental work on Impulse Records! The album's a classic introduction to the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sonny Rollins

Alfie
Impulse, 1965. Near Mint- Gatefold
A beautiful soundtrack to the dark British comedy of the same name – starring a young Michael Caine! Impulse, 1961. Good Gatefold
Killer stuff by Art Blakey – one of his few non-Blue Note sessions from the time, and a hard-wailing set that features the Jazz Messengers as a sextet!
