Mr C

LP (Item 30044) Arista, 1981 — Condition: Very Good+
A stunner from the wonderful Norman Connors – an artist who just seemed to get better and better at soul music the farther he moved away from jazz! Make no mistake, there's still plenty of jazz in the mix here – as backings are by Connors' great Starship Orchestra, with Marion Meadows on most tenor and soprano sax solos – but the overall groove is totally great, too – and really sets up the excellent vocals throughout! The album's the sort that put Connors on equal footing with Roy Ayers or Wayne Henderson – two other soul talents who'd moved in from jazz – and Norman's almost got more confidence himself with the lyrics than on some of his previous records. Jean Carn guests on one track, Glenn Jones on another – and titles include "Love's In Your Corner", "She's Gone", "Stay With Me", "Keep Doin It", "Anyway You Want", and "Sing A Love Song".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Get It Right
Arista, 1983. Near Mint-
A real standout from Aretha Franklin's years on Arista – a set produced by Luther Vandross, with a soaring groove that really opens Aretha up nicely! Groovin' You
Arista, 1979. Very Good
One of the best solo records from Harvey Mason – best known as the drummer on some really monster 70s funky fusion sessions (such as Johnny Hammond's Gears album) – but a surprisingly well-rounded R&B artist overall!
