Best Of Tavares

LP (Item 29872) Capitol, Mid 70s — Condition: Very Good
One of Capitol's biggest soul bands of the 70s – and a strong sweet group who made the shift from mellow soul to the disco years. The set kicks off with the band's massive "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel", but we prefer their mellower stuff – like their sublime version of "She's Gone", and "Bein With You", "It Only Takes A Minute", and "The Love I Never Had".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some light ring & edge wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sky High
Capitol, 1976. Near Mint-
A stone 70s classic from Tavares – quite possibly the group's biggest album, and a masterpiece of LA vocal group soul! The album's biggest claim to fame is the massive hit "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel", recorded by the group for this set, but blown to the heights through it's ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, 1965. Very Good
Great early work by Lou Rawls – no, the album doesn't have funky David Axelrod arrangements – but it does feature Lou with some great jazzy backing by Benny Carter – who really knows how to put the right degree of punch in the arrangements to bring out the best in Lou's voice. ... I Love You So
Capitol, 1979. Near Mint-

Minnie
Capitol, 1979. Near Mint-
The last full album recorded by Minnie Riperton before she left our planet all too soon – and a killer batch of work that really has us wondering how great the world of soul music would have been, had Minnie stuck around to keep on growing into the 80s and 90s! The set's filled with the kind ... LP, Vinyl record album

George Clinton

Computer Games
Capitol, 1982. Very Good
Great post-Parliafunkadelicment work from George Clinton – surely the biggest hit of his albums for Capitol – especially since it features the singles "Atomic Dog" and "Loopzilla"! We'll be honest in saying that at the time this one came out, as die-hard Detroit ... LP, Vinyl record album

Taste Of Honey

Taste Of Honey
Capitol, 1978. Very Good+
Probably the most successful album the Mizell Brothers ever produced, and a fine set of uptempo groovers from this female soul duet! There's some nice jazzy moments underneath the catchy lyrics, and in a way, the album's style is sort of a blueprint for the sound that would emerge over the next ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ashford & Simpson

Solid
Capitol, 1984. Very Good+
Darn solid work from Ashford & Simpson – one of the duo's biggest albums for Capitol Records, and a great set from their 80s run for the label! Capitol, 1966. Near Mint-
One of the greatest albums to ever sum up the genius of Lou Rawls in the 60s – a brilliant live set put together with the talents of David Axelrod! Lou Rawls

Black & Blue
Capitol, 1962. Very Good
Quite possibly the first truly great Lou Rawls album for Capitol – an all-out swinging jazz session done with arrangements by Onzy Matthews, in a mode that firmly helped put the Lou Rawls sound on the map! The tracks are mostly older numbers from a long lineage of blues and R&B – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Central Park Music Festival
Capitol/Music Images, Late 60s. Very Good+
A pretty great little live set – recorded in Central Park in the late 60s, before a very large crowd!
