A hell of a debut from The B-52s – and a record that's become surprisingly timeless over the years, despite a retro-styled approach by the group! These guys aren't the silly group of later years here – and instead, they've got this moody darkness that's wonderful – a re-envisioned postwar America, one in which the neuroses are all on the outside – served up with instrumentation that's stark, but incredibly tight – snapping drums, riffing guitar, and these great organ lines that sound beautiful next to the vocals of Fred and the girls. The set gave the group their perennial hit "Rock Lobster" – but taken as a whole, it's an incredibly different landscape – as you'll discover on tracks that include "Planet Claire", "52 Girls", "Dance This Mess Around", "Lava", "There's A Moon In The Sky (Called The Moon)", "Hero Worship", "6060-842" and "Downtown".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Later beige label pressing, includes the printed inner sleeve.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Alice Cooper

Killer
Warner, 1971. Very Good+
Pure early genius from Alice Cooper – a set that might not have been as big of a hit as some of his other early 70s albums, but which also shows the singer to be very much at the top of his game! Some of the tracks here follow familiar Cooper territory – sinister, hard-rocking energy ... LP, Vinyl record album

Alice Cooper

Love It To Death
Straight/Warner, 1971. Very Good Gatefold
The third album from Alice Cooper and perhaps the first great one – starting the 70s sleaze show win streak with the massive "I'm Eighteen" and an LP full of great, gritty and grimy rock and roll. Beau Brummels 66
Warner, 1966. Very Good
The Beau Brummels' debut for Warner Brothers – surprisingly, a record of all cover versions – but one that's still plenty darn great! Blood Sweat & Tears

Blood Sweat & Tears 4
Columbia, 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold
We never really know whether we want to call Blood, Sweat & Tears a funky, soulful rock band, or a bunch of white guys making a respectable effort at curring soul albums, but either way, the stuff sounds good to us! By this point the group had enjoyed enough chart success to stretch out a bit, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sticky Fingers
Rolling Stones, 1971. Very Good+
Landmark work from The Rolling Stones – and a set that may well stand alongside Exile On Main Street for capturing the group at their height!
