❔

A pivotal album from Stevie Wonder – one of his first really heady records, and a tremendous little set from start to finish! The Wonder heard here is light years from the simple pop of the early days – really stretching out both as a songwriter and musician – coming up with a richly spiritual sound that's completely amazing. Stevie also produced the record himself – and takes his talents to the next level in the effort – layering sounds together beautifully, and making them come out with a crystal clear realization of his new musical vision. A wonderful place to start digging Stevie Wonder – with the killer classics "Superwoman" and "I Love Every Little Thing About You" – plus "Love Having You Around", "Seems So Long", "Girl Blue", and "Happier Than The Morning Sun".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some surface wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Marvin Gaye

Marvin Gaye Live!
Tamla, 1974. Very Good+ Gatefold
A wonderful 70s live album from Marvin Gaye – a set that was as expansive, ambitious, and sophisticated as his studio work from the time! The album's put together almost like a 3-sided portrait of Marvin – in that it begins with a long section of current work, moves into a "fossil ... LP, Vinyl record album
Tamla, Mid 60s/1969. Very Good+
The Isley Brothers at Motown – a perfect place for the groove they crafted on earlier RCA singles to blossom with some of the more sophisticated soul styles that would make the group huge in the 70s! The set's overflowing with gems – big hits like "This Old Heart Of Mine" and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Tamla, 1970. Very Good
One of the greatest blue-eyed soul albums ever on Motown – featuring early work by British singer Kiki Dee, better known for her later hit with Elton John! Kiki here sounds much more like a Motown soul act than on later work – singing with a wonderfully smooth style that fits the motor ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvelettes

Marvelettes
Tamla, 1967. Very Good
Classic stuff from the girls who emerged to become one of Motown's best groups of the late 60s years. The set features the group's great version of "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game", still a big cut on the Chi-town steppers scene – plus a number of other covers and lesser ... Smokey Robinson

Quiet Storm
Tamla, 1975. Very Good+
Incredible work – a record that should be in every household! Smokey breaks free of the group sound of the Miracles albums – hitting a whole new mode, and inventing the "Quiet Storm" radio format along the way! The title cut – "Quiet Storm" – is a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Emotions

Sunbeam
Columbia, 1978. Near Mint- Gatefold
A great little album from The Emotions – largely because it sounds a lot like prime mid 70s Earth Wind & Fire, with female vocals added over the top – ultimately, pulling away with a soulful charm all its own! Maurice White produced the whole set, and it's got a soaring spacey ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kano

Kano
Emergency, 1980. Near Mint-
Dark disco from Kano – lots of electronic drums and keyboards, with a sound that's almost equally post-punk as it is early 80s club. Tracks include the monstrous "I'm Ready", "It's A War", "Now Baby Now", "Cosmic Voyager", and "Super Extra Sexy ... LP, Vinyl record album

Randy Crawford

Secret Combination
Warner, 1981. Near Mint-
Rich, proud work from Randy Crawford – sung with the mature mix of jazz and soul that made her one of the more sophisticated mainstream singers of her generation! The album's heavy on mellower cuts, but it's never too sleepy – thanks to a slow-burning sensibility that Randy uses to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Keane Brothers

Keane Brothers
20th Century, 1977. Near Mint-
A great album of blue-eyed soul from the end of the 70s – produced by Lamont Dozier, with a sweet and smooth modern feel! The style here is quite similar to Lamont's own records, except for the fact that the Keane Brothers have a vocal style that's not as rough as Lamont – sweeping ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ernie Watts Encounter

Wonder Bag
Vault, 1972. Near Mint-
An excellent early album from Ernie Watts – one that has him taking on the music of Stevie Wonder with very groovy results! The sound here is quite different than the smoother fusion of Ernie's later years – and instead, there's a rollicking soul jazz groove to most numbers – one ... LP, Vinyl record album

Woody Herman

Light My Fire
Cadet, 1968. Near Mint-
A masterpiece – one of 2 crazy albums in which Woody Herman's late band meets the Cadet arrangements of Richard Evans. You might think the combination wouldn't work – Woody's big band flourishes meeting up with Evans' compressed soulful grooves – but gosh, the record is simply ... LP, Vinyl record album
